Boy, is John Gruden gonna come in and win with Miles' players if this ever comes to pass.... (I hope Gruden can learn how to "Les speak" quickly though)
my mistake then. i thought you meant off-field discipline, and i think we have someone who is doing a good job balancing being fair to kids and running a clean program. he cant prevent everything but has handled the off-field issues well imo. anyway, thanks for clarifying since i read it wrong.
Gruden works for ESPN, ESPN is saying Gruden is the choice to replace Miles. Miles made ESPN look stupid, Herbie especially, ESPN has been doing it's best to make Miles look stupid since, ok, so it hasn't been too hard, but i smell ulterior motives.
This season will speak volumes for Miles. If he flunks and Gruden does come in, just his name, pro coaching career, and superbowl ring will bring in some of the recruits. He would have a tough time standing up to Miles recruiting in the long run.
I don't even see that article at the link, just a subscription offer. This looks like a teaser title to me. Since when does ESPN use a fan board or a blog for a source?
Is Gruden a good coach? Damn right he is. Would I want him here at LSU? Hell no. I dont like the idea at all of bringing in a NFL coach. He is likely to get the itch for the NFL down the road, leaving LSU. I rather not take the chance on getting burned again. Im not sure what this season will bring, IMO this is do or die for Miles. If not he is close to that scenario. We know the problems so I wont rehash them. I feel much better about this team but we shall see. If things implode yet again Chris Peterson or Gary Patterson would be much better fits than Gruden. Both or college coaches, each is red hot with a program that doesnt recruit nearly as well as LSU. Peterson is an offensive guru, while Patterson is on D. If there does need to be a change then those would be the first two Id go after.
As has been pointed out several times, I am sure that Gruden is on Alleva's short list of possible replacements should the need arise. I am sure the same list exists for all the coaches of each program we have. If someone could pin him down and force Alleva to spill out his replacement wish lists these same types of rumors could be started for all the programs. The only reason this is a topic to generate some buzz is because depending on this upcoming season the decision on whether or not Miles seat starts to heat up will determine the need for a new coach. Miles and the Tigers have a solid season and show strong improvement over the last 2 yrs, Miles seat cools off. The Tigers and Miles flounder around and stumble through the season showing little improvement, and Miles seat gets real hot.
