Re: ESPN Around the Horn... I wouldn't go so far to say the infamous 5 downs. Didn't that actually change the outcome of the game because on the 5th down the team scored? There was no gaurantee the outcome of the game would have changed if the call was made correctly. Only that we would have had another shot down only 6 with around 6 minutes left instead of down 9 with 3 minutes left.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... that play itself didn't change the outcome of the game. But...... you could argue that every pathetic call in that game could have. Just think if LSU was awarded the first down in the first drive, when the spot was a yard off of what it should have been. Or if Alabama punts instead of going for it on 4th after the roughing. The Phantom PI call, when the ball was thrown in the stands. The block in the back, say what you want, i have seen a lot less called. The spear on Jefferson.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... the reason i call him a chihuahua is because of his temper tantrums on the sideline until the person he is bitching about gets close to him, then he turns around. Don't worry he did that here too.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... Didn't claim it was guaranteed. In fact I have said we probably would not have scored. But I think that is why they play the game. If we could just extrapolate everything based on a set of numbers, first downs, yards, etc, then we could call the game at halftime and go home. Fact is we can't know, because the refs screwed the pooch. Do you really think all these reporters are just going to stop talking about it if bama goes on to win? Geez, Lee had not been in the game 30 seconds before they fired up every one of his pick sixes with nice big numbers to help you count along. I don't think it will go away unless bama loses. And it's just possible it will be resurrected next year. :hihi: If it were meaningless, it would fade away. I doubt this one will.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... My conscience isn't involved, weather the refs feel that way I don't know, I think they should be concerned. Bama fans did the exact same thing LSU fans did on that play The exact same thing we all do every time they throw a flag. Sit there helplessly and wait on the verdict. What did Bama have to do with it? I normally wait till I do something I regret, before it bothers my conscience. If the victory is tainted, it's tainted among those who look at it that way. I can't speak for Saban, but I know his style well enough to say, had the catch counted, He would have lived with it.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... he really wouldnt have had any choice given all evidence shows it was an interception. its a bit tougher to live with when you've gotten screwed.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... Just a little humor on my part. We lived through 4 years of Mike Shula. We were constantly wondering if he had a pulse.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... if it was a conspiracy, i think the ref that called the intentional grounding/safety was not in on it. a no call there would have been less egregious than the other bad calls. i also dont get why a conspiracy would involve bama and uf and not lsu. lsu has the same name recognition as bama nationwide now and the SEC cant be scared of having a 1-loss team win the conf. its bad refs and human psychology with a garnish of occassional death threats.
