Re: ESPN Around the Horn... I agree with this (and mentioned it elsewhere), but it's not just the SEC. Did anyone see the Iowa-Indiana game two weeks ago? There is a lot of money at stake, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that conferences are protecting their championship game hopefuls.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... SEC fines aside, whenever a HC publicly criticizes officials it is always a losing proposition for the program. Slive's boys will still be around for the rest of this season and beyond, and human beings hold grudges. Add to that the negative PR of a coach "whining" about the outcome of a game.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... Well now it's officially funny. Saban is forced into a rant himself.... Nick Saban fires back on criticism for SEC game officials | The Bama Beat - al.com Dude, this is the time of year you are supposed to be nice to the media. Didn't you get the memo??

Re: ESPN Around the Horn... Wilbon finally said it was a conspiracy. That would take a lot more than instant replay to prove. Some Bama fans are having a hard time seperating the "catch" from the eventual winner of the game. They are two separate issues involving two separate circumstances. Bama has been on the wrong end of many similar calls. They didn't like it then, and wouldn't have excepted that call sat. especially if we lose that game. The reason sec refs travel with their sec visiting teams in out of conference match up, other conferences do as well, is because Bama got hosed against Penn St. in Happy Valley. Turns out the ref who obviously missed the call, happened to be a close relative to a Penn St. player. Sure smelt like a conspiracy. Instant replay has changed expectations even more. It's one thing to miss a call, but staring at the play from 8 diff. angles, in slow motion, and bad calls are still made, makes it feel like a conspiracy. You got me.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... big difference between one blown call and a multitude of them. all against the visiting team. in the state of alabama. again.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... The word around is that the replay official is a graduate of Alabama. Can anyone confirm this? If it is true, it's the SEC doing exactly the same thing you are decrying from that Penn State game. I don't believe it's a conspiracy, but the pattern of questionable calls favoring the higher ranked team is disturbing. GEAUX TIGERS
Well, he's right about this. However, if you are a competitor and believe in sportsmanship, Coach, wouldn't you prefer a victory without the controversy? Had they gotten it right, and the 'Bama stopped our offense and went on to win the game anyway, we Tiger fans (most of us anyway) could accept a loss where both teams left it all on the field. Granted, the officiating would still have sucked, but there would not have been that one big call on which the possible outcome of the game was hinged.
Re: ESPN Around the Horn... Well, if he graduated from Bama get back with me. I thought a little history would get your juices flowing. "decrying the Penn St. game" I was born 15 miles out of state college. All my family still live there. DE-CRY? you better believe it.
something most of us has over looked. spread for this game was 7.5 if that pick is called right: LSU gets ball with 6 min to go. Still plenty of time to run the ball as well as pass. Clock would be running. Odds are at least 2-3 minutes would be run off the clock. Even if LSU does NOT score, Bama would've gotten ball back somehwere in their own territory with around 2:30 - 3:00 to geaux. LSU has no timeouts. Bama would have just sat on the ball and eaten the rest of the clock. Ball game, Bama wins by 6. with INT = Bama likely does not cover spread no INT = Bama kicks FG, covers point spread any guesses how much money was affected by that call?
