FB is so crucial. Glad they put an actual athlete in there this year instead of waiting for next year and scrambling to find the first walk-on or third-string OL just to fill the role.

    The Advocate:

    DJ Welter:
    "I've been here a while ... I think I'm ready."

    Chavis on DJ Welter:
"He's handled his business," Chavis said straight-forward. "He's a very
intelligent player...and he can play physically."
"Two years ago, he and Kevin Minter, they were neck and neck," Chavis said. "Kevin eased out in front of him and earned it. That could've very easily have been D.J. making that swing."
(Welter was ruled academically ineligible last year)

    Kwon:
"Right now, it looks like we’re going to be rotating.” ... “Whatever Chief needs me to do, I’m going to do it,” Alexander said. “I’ve been trying to learn all three positions just in case somebody goes down and Chief needs somebody to go in I’ll be ready.” ... “That’s really Chief’s call"

DJ Welter on the 2-year guys:

“They’re learning the scheme, who to pick up on pass plays and where to fit against the run,” Welter said. “A year ago, they’d see it but overrun it. Now, they’re sitting down in their gap and definitely coming along.”

    Tahj:
“I’m ready to get back on the field,” said Jones, a 6-2, 205-pound senior from Sulphur. “All during the summer, my teammates would come up to me and say, ‘I’m ready to see 58 (Jones’ number). I’m ready to see 58.’

    Miles:
“Welter has had a very strong fall camp,” Miles said. “He’s improved and improved.
“I think our linebacking corps is kind of enjoying the luxury of big plays and the enjoyment of contact. I think the group is just a really improved group.”

    Chavis:
"Had we not had Kevin Minter last year, everyone would have been talking about Lamin [Barrow] and how well he played...he had an outstanding year for us. Look at the number of plays that he was in on and it's pretty high. ...he played extremely well. Lamin was the guy, had he chose to, could have gone to the [NFL] Draft and been a second or third round pick from some of the information that I got from people. ...He's an excellent football player ... we're glad to have him – there's no doubt about that."
