From what I've heard about mett. He's doing summer classes so he can graduate in December. That's why he sat out manning camp. He went to Cam camp instead.
A take on the LB'ers this year. We return 4 that started a least one game last year and 8 that played in games last year. The kicker I see this year is Beckwith and Melvin Jones, where do they play them? Beckwith, I've seen in high school, he could play a number of position on both sides of the ball, same with Jones. Barrow is the leading returning tackler from last year, 104 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 5 PBU and 5 QB hurries. Behind him are guys that played well, Debo Jones, Lamar Louis and Kwon Alexander. A couple more are Tahj Jones, Fiest, Welter and Philips. Depth is not a problem at this position. Beckwith could play DE, if the staff feels a need there, he is that good.
Chavis plays a ton of players every year. He knows exactly what he has which is a shitload of talent. The only question is how quickly they will gel into starting players. Bammers and everybody else is expecting a huge drop-off on defense, but it just . . . ain't . . . happening. Watch and learn.
Lol what??? You go over the depth chart and our OL is our weakest spot with depth, only returning five guys that played last year. TE only has 2 guys that played last year. Meanwhile on D, we are TWO DEEP at every position except one CB spot with guys that played last year. Our first string on D at EVERY POSITION will be made up of guys that played in at least 12 games last year, can't say that about our OL. Our D is stacked compared to our offense: heres how the same ESPN SEC bloggers that rated our LBs #2 rated our offense: LSU #8 QB (Bama is #4) #4 RB (Bama is #2) #6 OL (Bama is #2) #6 Receivers (Bama is #1) Now compare to how they rate our D: LSU #4 DL #2 LB #4 DB Compare to the rest of the SEC, do you see anybody besides LSU Top 4 at every position group on D? Bama #6 DL #1 LB #2 DB Florida #2 DL #5 LB #1 DB South Carolina #1 DL #14 LB #7 DB Arkansas #3 DL #12 LB #13 DB Ole Miss #5 DL #3 LB #5 DB Tennessee #12 DL #4 LB #12 DB Vandy #7 DL #6 LB #3 DB aTm #14 DL #10 LB #6 DB Georgia #9 DL #8 LB #8 DB Miss st #10 DL #7 LB #9 DB Auburn #13 DL #13 LB #10 DB Mizzou #11 DL #11 LB #11 DB Kentucky #8 DL #9 LB #14 DB
Whaaa? Nobody had even heard of Minter the year before last. But you've heard of Kwon, haven't you? and how have you not heard of redshirt senior Lamin Barrow?? Over 100 tackles last year? Hellooo? Redshirt senior Tahj Jones? He's played in EVERY GAME he's been at LSU except for being academically ineligible one year (last year until he started vs Clemson). Redshirt junior DJ Welter, former Louisiana defensive player of the year in high school??? Helloooo? These guys ain't young. But it IS the young guys those three have to worry about. Our sophomore LB class is known as the best class of LBs anybody can remember at LSU. You add that to LB guru Chavis and that's why they ranked us the #2 LB corps in the SEC...and Chavis has said that group is so good he wouldn't be surprised to see it produce THREE Honey Badger caliber talents. Kwon? Debo Jones? Lamar Louis? Ronnie Feist? Lorenzo Phillips? Trey Granier? Then you can add the freshman trio of Beckwith, Melvin Jones, Riley
Yes, now Bama had a lot of sophomores on D last year, five of them were major contributors to Bama's success on D last year: -true soph LB DePriest (#2 in tackles), -RS soph LB Hubbard (#1 in sacks, #1 TFL, #1 forced fumbles, #3 QB hurries), -true soph LB Dickson (#3 in sacks, #3 QB hurries), -true soph safety Sunseri (#3 in INTs, #4 in tackles, #5 TFL, #5 passes defended) -true soph safety Clinton-Dix (#1 in INTs, #4 passes defended) But LSU doesn't have that problem. our D is loaded with upperclassmen this season...
