Hawkman, my @$$. This guy has LSU "fan" written all over it. It's very interesting that the comments about Liggins are not being covered in the media. The context really changes the whole deal.
The ESPN comments section rarely rises above the level of trolling 12-year-old boys, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. But the PR aspect is correct. All the public ever hears about is manipulative coaches trying to trick or exploit innocent, naive 18-year-old kids. They generally don't have a clue about the manipulation going on behind the scenes by parents and "mentors." Or that these "kids" are perfectly capable of gaming the system themselves to get illicit goodies. The Kiel clan had obviously been courting ND for some time after he committed. Enrollment, registration, and financial assistance at a school, particularly one with ND's academic standards, doesn't happen in a flash, even for athletes. Kiel didn't wake up the morning he was supposed to enroll at LSU, had an epiphany, and made a call to the ND coaching staff about a scholarship. There was definitely some dirty pool being played by someone on their end.
I don't have a problem with what Miles said...and that goes for any recruit to any school who has made a commitment. Integrity starts early in life. Going against your word sets you up for failure.
i agree that what one coach did on nsd of telling a kid that day "oops we oversigned you have to grayshirt" is awful and should be called out. the kid had been committed for months. that we should hear about. (although no one seems to be raising a fuss about that incident of screwing over a kid.) but kids are screwing over schools with lies and deceit too, and it is happening more and more. changing your mind is one thing. playing a school just to screw them over is something else. (toshiro davis.) i dont know if that is what happened here or not. i do agree with stacey that when you add the rest of the statement in comparing how liggins handled his announcement, comparing the one you signed to the one you did not, it changes the context. i still would not have recommended he say it, but it is not just a slam and go on, it is a comparison. unfortunately, it is being blown out of proportion and is going to require serious damage control. i just think it is crazy everyone is up in arms over something like this, and not about a kid being told on nsd the school he had been committed to (so much so he didnt even take his other visits) didnt have room for him.
Something to think about... Why do people think that these 18 year old "kids" should be handled with kid gloves? Here is what I say, the so called "kids" are 18, we concider them adults, the law conciders them adults and they should act like adults. If they make a concious decision to to screw someone, then they should be man enough to own up to it and not handle it the way this was handled by not just Kiel, but all the others across the nation that play mind games with the fans. I have been in the military now for 26 years, I see 18 year old "kids" (I don't concider them kids) day in and day out serve their country and sometimes pay the ultimate sacrifice with their life. Just because some 18 year old men play football, I dont beleive they should be treated like children. Part of the problem with high school seniors is that they get their butts kissed by these universities and the media for almost 2 years and they are spoiled. I apologize for being on my soap box, but it is really disappointing and demoralizing to see 18, 19, 20, and 21 years old men fighting for their country and having to live on food stamps. Yes, you heard it right, I personally have a hand full of young men trying to support their families with food stamps because they dont make enough money. This country needs to get its priorities straight. off my box... :crystal: 2012 :geauxtige :tigereye:
This will have zero effect on the LSU program and generally forgotten in weeks. And if that is the biggest verbal shot Kiel takes he is one lucky man.
I have no problem with this at all. If you're not a Tiger than you're Tiger Bait has always been my policy. One of my favorite speeches he's given.
So let me get this straight....Miles can take a shot at Kiel but we, as fans, can't boo players. hhhhmmm. Double standard much? (Let me remind you guys that all of them are adults because I can hear the arguement....they are just kids)
It's not a double standard at all. Kiel is not a Tiger. You can boo all the players you want just not LSU players. As long as Miles does not take shots at his own players then let'er rip!
oh, so just cause he is not a Tiger it makes it ok and not a double standard. I am back to hhhhmmm and where was Miles' "chest" when the fans wanted answers after the BCS game?
