Pretty funny that Dye would openly condemn Nutt given our general knowledge of Dye's past transgressions ....:hihi: ... pot calling the kettle black, IMO. Dye learned from the master.

Dye was was defensive for two reasons. First, Finebaum is a paid shill for UA and has been since his affiliate-move in 2006. The syndication sponsors for his program are rooted in the REC ..... pretty smart move if you ask me. Second, Dye was and is Chizik's sponsor in this process, which is exactly why Chizik was hired in the first place.

It's also no surprise to see a significant number of Dye-affiliated candidates listed for the open staff positions on the Plains either.

Contrary to Charles Barkley's opinion, Turner Gill was not deselected because of race. In fact, he was the popular choice among the fanbase by a wide margin. Barkley plays the race card like most of us expel gas .... whenever it suits him. He once accused me of being a "bleepin' racist" because I blew-in a 25 foot putt to beat him 5 ways on a ten-dollar nassau.

Turner Gill's interview was short .... less than 20 minutes from start to finish. The sticking point was Gill's insistence that he have "complete" control over the staff selections, which Jacobs could not agree to. The reasons why are an altogether different discussion.

True, but that sword cuts both ways. In my opinion, Auburn has observed UA's in-state recruiting practices and is changing course. In particular, the Mobile and Gadsden areas have shown that the recruiting practices were an uneven playing field for AU, and it pre-dates Saban's arrival by at least one year. Tuberville ran an uber-clean program ..... do the math .......

Don't worry Bama fans .... imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Oh give me a break. Finebaum is for Finebaum and no one else. Finebaum could cut his throat and slice both wrists and it's doubtful he could find a Bama fan who would dial 911 for him.

Wouldn't surprise me that much. Last Forbes rankings had the Auburn football program at #8 ($73 Million value, $33.9 Million profit), while Alabama was #9 ($72 Million value, $31.8 Million profilt), Ohio State was #10 ($71 Million value, $26.6 Million profit), and Oklahoma was #11 ($70 Million value, $18.5 Million).

Auburn is a whole different ballgame than Iowa State. At Auburn, Chizik is at a school with the money and the reputation to attract a top-flight coaching staff and top-flight recruits.

Based on Chizik's previous success as a DC at Auburn (13-0 in 2004) and at a similar football program, Texas (13-0 in 2005), it's not out of the realm of possibility that Chizik's Auburn program is a perennial contender for the national championship.

Remember, everyone thought Pete Carroll was a horrible choice as head coach of Southern Cal because of how poorly he did in his shots at being a head coach (6-10 as head coach of Jets in '94, and as head coach of the Patriots--'97 to '99, his team got progressively worse each season).

AU's problems are tremendously more deep rooted than just "in state recruiting practices". If your AD is just a puppet for an ex-coach and you turn away better coaches for the good ole boy networks choice, recruiting is the least of your worries. JMO

I've always wondered what colleges give their coaches complete control over staff selections. Based on that recent Forbes article on how Saban was given more power than any other football coach, it appears that Bama gave him complete control over staff selections. But Bama did that because they were desperate. How many other programs give their coaches complete control over staff selections? Think about it: if you own a football team, and you hire a head coach, are you going to give him complete control over staff selections, positions that you have to pay for? I imagine that most schools retain the right to veto any staff selections that their coach wants to make.

I imagine that most big time coaches have complete control of who they hire but every single AD has the power of veto should there be a huge red flag on someones resume. I don't think the power of veto is what is being talked about at AU. Sounds more like the AD office was going to make some additions to the staff on their own.

It's not the AD office, it's the Auburn Trustee's. They are the problem and Bobby Lowder is the ring leader.

Jay Jacobs and Jay Gouge dont have the balls to stand up to him.

You're close, but not quite there. Surprisingly, Lowder and Gouge stayed out of it in this instance. Lowder has been much deserving of such criticisms in his past, but he's had his hands full with other, more pressing matters of late.

Gouge purposefully distanced himself from this search, offering only his final approval following a brief, 30 minute face-to-face with Chizik in Sexton's Memphis offices.

Why did Gouge not even show up to the presser announcing Chizik? I just want an Auburn fans POV...Serious here.

An academic budget meeting was the excuse? C'mon man, they could have had that presser earlier or later....The president of ANY university (especially a big program) has to be there. It's just bizzare to me.

There is no doubt in my mind that Dye had something to do with it. The "network" down there is going to seriously hurt Auburn for the next few years...I love it, I just cant see how more AU fans are not outraged by this.

Are you referring to him losing money? If not, you've got me there...
