Jeff Wickersham (QB) 1982-85, Merritt Island, Florida. Jeff lives in Metairie, owns and operates a successful marine and industrial company. http://www.dandydon.com/where.html I sent a link with Don's e-mail address to Forde.
Forde didnt try to hard. "DandyDon's LSU Tiger Page-- Where are They Now" is the second Google hit for "Jeff Wickersham"
Any of you saw him play live? What was he like? Big strong arm or just an accurate passer? Sorry I know next to nothing about him, I was born like 4-5 years after he left LSU.
Jeff had a good arm and was a "streak" passer. Thus, at times he wasn't very accurate. Thats what I recall from the student section, take it for what its worth.
My Dad took me to the game against Vandy in '84 in Tiger Stadium, it was the next game after the win against USCw in Los Angeles. I don't recall much about who was QB but I guess it had to be Wickersham. It's funny because I do recall watching Alan Risher play QB.
Which is code for: "I may have been drinking and don't remember so well." I have a similar lack of memory for the '88 LSU/Texas A & M game. I remember the team running out on the field, then...not so much...
Good QB, and he got to throw to Eric Martin....but his best play was when he handed off to Dalton Hilliard.
Wickersham was a good, but not great passer. Pretty strong arm, but not as accurate or quick as Tom Hodson. He was thrown into the fire too early by starting as a Soph in 83, but became a good manager of the offense when Arnsparger brought Ed Zaunbrecher in as offensive coordinator and put the team on the cusp of winning the SEC in 84 (curse you, John Bond). The offense wasn't as dynamic as it was expected to be in 85--that team won with defense (the offense was totally shut out in the Florida and Baylor games that year) and I think Wickersham took the brunt of that. Had a real good connection with Dalton Hilliard, who always knew where his passes would be. I remember watching him and Hilliard play in the 85 Senior Bowl. Three times on the same drive, Wickersham threw to Hilliard who was running a down and out 5 yards down the field. All three times, the ball arrived on Hilliard's back shoulder just as he made the cut. All three times, Hilliard caught it because he knew where it would be, because it had been in the same place all season. (At least, that's how I remember it) He took the team to 2 bowl games, and seemed like a good leader. Along with Herb Tyler, I think he is underrated by LSU fans. Alan Risher is remembered more favorably, but Wickersham had the better numbers and seasons. GEAUX TIGERS
