Considering the lack of oversight of their student athletes combined with the sanctions revolving around Kelvin Sampson, it'll be an interesting afternoon.

Is OU the NCAA's "lesson" this year?

Here is what I'm hearing...and I'm in the US Virgin Islands vacationing. :thumb:

    * OU will lose two scholarships for each of the 2008-09, 2009-2010 academic years. Therefore, they will only have 83 for two years following the 2007 season.

    * The results of the 2005 season, including OU's Holiday Bowl win, will removed from the record books. This includes all stats and coaches records.

    * Two years of probation will be added to the current probationary period. Therefore OU's probation will end on May 23, 2010.

    * OU will reduce the number of coaches who can recruit on the road by one for the 2007 season (this was a self-imposed penalty).

***These are the main factors that we have learned.

There are other self-imposed sanctions, dealing with the car dealership and financial aid, that will also be listed when the official report is released.

Do they have to give the Bowl money back? What good is probation if all they do is extend it when you break it?

    From The Dallas Morning News:

Must erase all 2005 games from record book.

    Other penalties include:
    • Two additional years of probation, extending to May 2010. The school already was on probation for basketball violations.
    • The loss of two football scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
    • The banishment of former Big Red manager Brad McRae from association with the University until at least August 2011.
    • A reduction in the number of football coaches who can recruit off campus this fall by one.

This is Oklahoma's sixth major NCAA infractions case involving football and seventh overall. Only Arizona State and SMU, each with eight, have more overall major cases.

OU officials appeared before the NCAA infractions committee on April 14 in Indianapolis. It was the school's second appearance in less than a year. In May 2006, the NCAA sanctioned OU for major violations in its men's basketball program, involving hundreds of improper telephone calls by coaches to recruits.

The basketball decision came five weeks after the infractions hearing. The football decision came more than 12 weeks after the Indianapolis hearing. It's rare for a major college athletic program to face such official scrutiny of its top two revenue sports in such a short span.

Coach Bob Stoops dismissed Bomar and Quinn in early August last year, just before fall practice began. Both players competed during 2005 while they took money that they didn't earn from Big Red, which is why OU must forfeit those victories, the NCAA said.

"Any public reference to these vacated contests, including the bowl game, won during this time shall be removed from athletics department stationary, banners displayed in public areas and any other forum," the NCAA said.

Don't believe they have to give the money back.

My question is, if this is what schools get when they self report, will it have a negative impact on self reporting?

    I thought this was odd:

"A lesser-noticed provision in the sanctions includes a requirement for all of OU's wins in the 2005 season to be given to the University of Southern California, and for all OU fans to refrain from referring to Vince Young as 'Radio' for a term of 180 days."

    WOW
