Part of the problem is the OOC schedule has to be set years in advance. It's typically not something you do at the last minute. Here's our OOC schedule for the next 4 years: 2009 - UW, UL-L, Tulane, La Tech 2010 - Tulane, Southern Miss and 2 TBA's 2011 - Northern Illinois, Houston, Tulane, TBA 2012 - N. Texas, Washington, Tulane, TBA I understand all of the arguments about the strength of the SEC schedule, but I would like a little stronger OOC schedule.
I'm assuming you disagree with my second point, because my first point - if I say so myself - is not opinion, but fact.
Short of a home-home with USC just so we can stop hearing all the anti-USC bullsh!t, I'd rather a schedule in the top 30-40% of SoS ratings that allows the team to prepare for, and take a break from, SEC play. I think all we're really talking about is one reasonable opponent. I can't argue with that. The goal here is to get to the big show, not to compare penises in the shower with some other fan base. BTW - as I type this, Ohio State is getting their ass handed to them by Ohio!
Precisely. :thumb: And other than the Huskies I don't know that I see a reasonable opponent in the next four years.
Our scheduling has been terrible and we deserve every shot thrown at us. I'd love to spin it and pump some sunshine into our decisions regarding ooc opponents, but I just cant do it. Screw the other Louisiana schools, we don't need to schedule them every year.
Well then, you're cutting yourself out of 51% of 11/12ths of the season's opportunities... Assuming you're not bi...
Was Stewart Mandel not critical of Georgia last week for not totally destroying Georgia Southern while he also claimed that it lost Georgia the #1 spot in the polls? Do these azzwipes not realize that these lower tier schools play these games specifically for the money they generate to run many of their athletic programs, including those for women? So Georgia went out and hammered Central Michigan yesterday, a team that won their bowl game last year against Purdue and has most of their starters back from a year ago. Will this now satisfy the voters or will they find some other BS excuse to claim that USC is clearly #1? Personally, I can't stand it when you have to humiliate another team and their coaching staff after you have won the game just to satisfy a bunch of dishonest sports pundits. Do these turds also remember how Georgia should have been matched up with USC in the Rose Bowl? Where was their sense of a good matchup then?
Chip - c'mon man. It's too early in the season to get this p!ssed off about something that matters exactly nada! If USC and UGA sweep their schedules, you'll meet in the title game and we'll know. If you each have 1 loss, then chances are you'll need all this energy to combat the media bias, because UGA and USC likely will not be the only one loss teams. It's too early right now. Personally, I think #2 is a better position anyway - the Dawgs will stay hungry.
The 12 game regular season schedule was primarily devised to pick up extra revenue for both the major programs and the schools that are willing to offer themselves up to share in the payouts. Schools like Minnesota, Arkansas, and LSU are in reality the only highly competitive programs within their respective states. The second tier schools are begging for the revenue while other top programs around the country are being elusive. You can't make another program play you, so you have to look over your options and see what fits. Western Carolina is the poster child for offering themselves up to anyone, anytime and anywhere, to pay for their Millennial Initiative for the benefit of their 9000 students. App St, Western Carolina, and Georgia Southern are all part of the Southern Conference. Who else is going to be really interested in scheduling them if the SEC and ACC teams won't because of the fear of being called a, "BULLY?"
