They named 5 SEC teams to their top 10 bully list for beating up on cupcake OOC teams. Per the article, "But couldn't it also be said that SEC teams should pick on someone their own size if they're really that good?" Link Seems to me its more about finding a quality opponent willing to play a home and home.
I'd be concerned in espn calling auburn, florida, georgia and alabama "cupcakes" why are they worried about non conference games? how about challenging notre dame's conference games or usc's??? btw, i know ND isn't in a conference. and usc hardly is as well.
If the VT game hadn't fallen into place on last years schedule, we wouldn't have the second one of :crystal: those in the trophy case. This years OOC schedule is a joke.
"This years OOC schedule is a joke." That may be true but the ASU game was moved up to this year because neither team could get anyone to schedule them. ASU got turned down for Opening day games by: UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and a couple of others. Heard LSU got turned down by Texas, Texas A&M, Arizona, Arizona State, USC and a couple of others. What are ya' gonna do? :geaux: Giv'em Hell Apps
You guys have a hell of a program and have had incredible success. And please don't take this personally but I am adamantly opposed to scheduling I-AA (or whatever it is) opponents. And if we got turned down by any and/or all of the schools you mentioned it was because we probably insisted on home games only.
It' s so easy for teams like USC to play tougher OOC teams. The SEC is caught in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation with this. If we schedule difficulty OOC teams, that adds a 4th, 5th, or even 6th top 25 team to our schedule. For USC, it adds exactly 1. I have never understood why this is not considered more by analysts. Is this not a valid argument? Seriously.
It's a valid argument. Why would LSU want to travel to Ohio State or USC or Norman, Oklahoma then have to turn around and play Auburn 1 or 2 weeks later? Had we started the season with Missouri or West Virginia, would our new QBs been better able to work their way to SEC proficiency? We play Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Our schedule doesn't need toughening up. The program needs to generate income and traveling on normal home dates just to play better competition early in the season ain't gonna cut it. But it did. And the ASU game was not considered to be a softie before it was played. In it's TV preview of the game, Sports Illustrated wrote: "The Tigers won't ease into their NCAA title defense: LSU opens the season against a team expecting another high profile upset." Cupcake games in the pre-conference weeks are the norm for all of the big boys.
Yea, Espn, The SEC sucks even though we have won 3 national championships in the last 6 years. They are starting to sound as bad as some of Michael Moore's crap.
