I finally had a chance to read this article, and the last few paragraphs darn-near brought me to tears. Growing up in a coaching family, it is absolutely true that no one suffers a loss as much as the coaches. Their families suffer right along with them--as long as the coach allows it. Obviously, Miles and his family are "all in" together. This man has heart and passion; he is our legendary coach--make no mistake about that. The other day, my daughter and I were watching a news report on Darrell Royal's funeral in Austin. She was asking about him, and I said, "He was UT's legendary coach, he was their Bear Bryant." She asked, "Who is LSU's legendary coach." I answered, "Right now, it would have to be Charlie Mac." She came back with, "But it's going to be Les Miles, right?" Yes, he probably already is.
He will be. He'll be fondly remembered, even if he's disrespected now. I'm sure the bear had his detractors, too.
Stacey -- Sounds like a discussion I could have with my son. Love your spirit and your daughter's obvious predispostion to all things LSU. It is hard here in Dallas with all the propganda for UT and TAM.
