Don't be surprised if SoCal stomps all over these guys tonight. Arizona St. is every bit the phony that Kansas is.

These guys scheduled EIGHT home games this year, with a non-conference schedule that looked like this:

    San Jose St.
    Colorado
    San Diego St.

The only quality team on their schedule to date, Oregon, handled them. They barely beat a very inconsistent UCLA team by 4, and now they get the Trojans. They are a mirage, which I suppose is appropriate for a desert team.

What this game means to LSU:

    1. If ASU loses, it holds open the possibility that LSU could lose a 2nd game and still make the NC (i.e., every team in the top 6 in the BCS loses 1 more game, except tOSU of course)
    1. If ASU wins, Ohio State is all but knocked out of title contention as they will surpass tOSU in the BCS next week

I don't know if I agree totally with Milty's assessment, but I do indeed hold reservation about how good ASU really is. They shot themselves in the foot time and time again in the Oregon game, they could have won it.

In fairness, I'd like to add this: in comparison to Kansas's non-conference schedule, Az. State's was a collection of monsters.

My Gosh, the Kansas schedule was almost as bad as Ohio St. playing the Ohio Trifecta!

You're joking, right? The media, voters, and computers would have a field day with us losing to an unranked Arkansas... not to mention the argument that if a team loses it's conference, how could it compete for a national title.

I see no possibility, which makes it painfully obvious that we HAVE to win out.

While I don't think they're a phony, we're (once again) seeing that the Pac-10 is really the Pac-1 and occasionally Pac-2.

Stanford, Washington State, Washington, and Arizona are just not real good football teams.

Cal and UCLA were way overrated and aren't going to be attractive to many decent bowl games.

Oregon State is a decent team but not Top 25 material.

That leaves USC, Oregon, and Arizona State. I believe Oregon and ASU are both Top 25 teams but not Top 10 teams. Their records are keeping them ranked high but considering their strength of schedule, I can't list them that high. I don't believe they're better than 3rd in the SEC East or West.

Oregon is nothing without Dennis Dixon.

So once again USC is the best in the Pac-1. Are they a Top 5 team? I don't think so. A Top 10?...close.

Should there be more than one Pac-1 team in a BCS bowl?...HELL NO!

I envision another typical boring Rose Bowl this year. Hopefully USC will lose tonight because the Rose Bowl hype is sickening enough without them and even worse when they're there.

What day does Booty accept his Heisman? :hihi:

Oops! My bad! I didn't realize that USC would be playing both the Sun Devils AND the stinkin' zebras at the same time.

REALLY outstanding home call on that unsportsmanlike! That jerk must have Az. St. and the 3 and a half.

That's a nice post, and I have no problem with your take on the Pac 10. I think if USC had been healthy all year, they'd certainly be in the Top 5, and that there isn't another Pac 10 team that wouldn't lose at least 3 times playing an SEC schedule.

    :geaux:

(My cable gizmo is now recording 2 shows so I'll be away from the game for the next hour, dangit!)
