so you wanna get paid $58 million after only playing eight games in New Orleans and you really don't want to be here??? How does sign and trade sound to you ??? Eric Gordon signs offer sheet with Suns; Hornets can match NEW ORLEANS -- Restricted free agent Eric Gordon has agreed to sign an offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns, meaning the ball is now in New Orleans' court on whether or not to match the offer for the shooting guard. The deal is reportedly worth $58 million over four years, but because Gordon is a restricted free agent, the Hornets have the opportunity to match any offer. The consensus around the league has been that the Hornets would do so, but apparently Gordon wishes to play elsewhere. Broussard on Twitter said "(Gordon's) desire is to play in Phoenix, not New Orleans." Broussard wrote on Twitter, "Eric Gordon told me this: 'I strongly feel (the Suns) are the right franchise for me. Phoenix is just where my heart is.'" Gordon, the key piece of the Chris Paul trade last year, had an injury-plagued year in his first season with the Hornets. He averaged more than 20 points a game, but played in just nine contests. http://www.wwltv.com/sports/Eric-Gordon-signs-offer-sheet-with-Suns-Hornets-can-match-161303275.html
The Hornets need to match Gordon's (who we don't need) offer sheet in a sign and trade for a center (who we do need). The guy's been injured his whole, short unproductive career...and he's a malcontent? See ya !!
Yeah, I agree on the surface, unless this ends up being a PR ploy. The Hornets management has been impressive so far that I am sure they will have a good pulse on this and ship him if he really is a malcontent. Could get a center, that's true, and glaring, but is it really as important as a great PG? The way the NBA has been of late, a serviceable center w/quality back up centers is all that is needed. A CP3 type PG is what can make the biggest difference. I wonder if ARivers could become like his dad? Presently, I don't see him as our main PG. A high quality center or PG is what I would be going after.
Who were the centers in the NBA CG? PGs and Forwards were the keys for both teams. We got the best forward in the draft, and now need a true PG to complement. A center would be nice, don't get me wrong, but in today's NBA I think a true PG is invaluable.
I figured that's what you meant. Just giving you a hard time about how you wrote it. You seemed to contradict yourself.
As a rule of thumb, I try not to listen to either side when it comes to contract negotiations. However, I understand that Gordon has been very involved in the team this offseason, showing up for the draftee workouts, pressing flesh, etc. He's going to be a key piece of a very young, athletic and exciting team. I can't imagine why he'd want to join a team that's one of the oldest in the league and more than likely starting down the hill to rebuilding. Meanwhile the Hornets are currently walking up the hill and doing it with a ton of cap space and new ownership that has shown they're willing to spend for the right people. Of course I wouldn't be against trading him for Kendall Marshall and an unprotected 1st round draft pick from next year's draft. It's more likely though that the Hornets will match the offer. I know it seems like a lot, but that's the going rate for a player of Gordon's caliber. Even if he does have a history of injuries.
Yanking my chain, eh? That's cool. No worries. I was probably being too diplomatic, uh, wishy washy. With Nash going to Lakers, and Dragic going to Suns, do they still want Gordon? I like the Kendall Marshall + draft pick idea, or perhaps go after Rondo since they just brought on JTerry. Rondo's talented, but a bit of a head case, too.
