wow the meltdown is complete tonight for both teams Rays come back from a 7-0 deficit in the bottom of the 8th to beat the Yanks (actually tied it in bottom of 9th with 2 outs on a solo HR and won in extras) and Boston blows a 3-2 lead in bottom of 9th with Papelbon 1 strike away from securing a 1 game playoff vs the Rays. Must have been weird for Yanks fans to be rooting for their team to lose the game tonight.
What a wild night of baseball! At least with the two epic collapses this year, perhaps there will be less talk of the Mets 2007 collapse. Interesting piece on infamous baseball collapses: Greatest Collapses In Major League History | ThePostGame :geauxtige
I continue to have difficulty following MLB with the Astros incompetence playing a role. The other factor is that the MLB playoffs coincide with football season. I happened to stumble upon the Rays-Yankees game in the bottom of the ninth. Everything that happened after that with the three games in progress was pure chaos. I found it somewhat fitting that the only game of signficance that was a dud was the Astros/Cards. On my drive home yesterday, one of the Houston sports shows was discussing that the Astros season ended with the uncertainty of the new owner. Will MLB approve him? Will he get fed up with the process and withdraw his offer? This state of limbo doesn't even allow Astros fans to look forward to the new owner and off-season moves.
So the Sillies played the super slumping, can't buy a win Braves like it was the 7th game of the world series and eliminated them from the playoffs, even though they dominated the regular season series against Atlanta. Their reward, a veteran team of recent playoff success, the hottest team in baseball and a Cardinals team that dominated the regular season against them. Sillie Phillies.
