Jimbo doesn't appear to be negatively recruiting against LSU. In fact, he's telling kids that they should chose FSU over LSU because LSU is too talented & they will see the field earlier at FSU. Jimbo is a good recruiter, but ultimately this class would not be substantially different with him - 1 to 2 recruits different, MAX.
Big Notre Dame fan. Just like a big time player that chose to play at LSU in the 90's... A hint of interest? We came in 2nd place for 2 of the best in the country, and DC is pretty good - just a bit raw. Texas has several with LSU interest (Karam's uncle is a professor at LSU), and Alabama has a big-time one with interest in LSU also.
Jacob Karam is having a good year, a little high on Int's but a good year overall. http://www.chron.com/sports/highsch...&tpl=Team&TeamID=225&Sport=1&SearchType=Teams http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=58090 Russell Shepard is a Dual Threat QB with a good arm, and speed to burn...we need to turn his UT favoritism to LSU. He is explosive, the game I linked..he had 5 TD runs for 40 or more yards...crazy http://www.chron.com/sports/highsch...ore&Sport=1&ID=124&TeamID=80&SearchType=Teams http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=59099
THat may be true, but we did get a JaMarcus-like clone in DC Jefferson and by the new rankings, Darron Thomas has moved up to 4-stars. Now, I know a lot of people here aren't blown away by Thomas' passing abilities, but after seeing his highlight clips, he may not have the cannon arm, but he's VERY accurate. Reguardless of whether or not he actually plays QB at LSU (my feeling is that he'll be a WR here but I'm sure Miles will at least take a look at him at QB--at least in fall practice) the fact that we have two quality recruits capable of playing the position is a huge positive. And guys, realize that according to the Rivals team rankings, we're currently listed as having the 14th best class in the nation. That's NOTHING to sneer at. No, it's not top 10 (which Miles has given us the past two seasons) but not every year do you HAVE to have a top 10 class. Look at USC. They can have top 5 classes after top 5 classes if that's your thing, but the only way you really reach that is by having lots of 5-star skill guys, and I'd rather have quality linemen first. This '08 class won't be our most glamourous class, but it'll have guys at positions of need. And that, to me at least, is more important.
Our class last year didnt come to form until the last 3 weeks of recruiting either. Hell, we had to wait a few extra weeks for Keiland after National Signing Day. All the big names wait until the last minute. Which also inflates their rankings. A great player who commits early actually losses value because there is no hype. This just goes to show that it is way too early to start worrying about our ranking especially when the rankings are ambigious anyyway.
