Has it made that much of an impact or is it just a down year for Louisiana football?

In looking at the recruits we have garnered so far, it's pretty much the same geographic makeup as in any previous typical year for LSU recruiting. Mostly Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi with a few sprinkled from farther away.

Your typical 5 star recruit usually stays in his home area. Out of the 22 five star recruits on rivals that have committed thus far, 18 have stayed "home".

So I think if we can get 1 or 2 of these 5 star recruits along with 3-4 more high 4 star recruits to come to LSU it will be a very successful season for LSU recruiting considering the aforementioned down year in LA football.

Given his extravagant history of success, I don't know what great offensive player wouldn't want to come play for Coach Crowton.

Conversely, I don't know what great offensive player would want to go play for FSU in their current state.

I think it is a combination.

Jimbo was a great recruiter and could sell things to kids that they were familiar with. Crowton has been away from this area for a while so most aren't familiar with he or his style.

However, recruiting involves a lot of luck. It may just happen a lot of kids did not grow up LSU fans. We may be able to swing some, but it changes yearly. I have a great feeling after establishing new relationships with coaches, we will do quite fine.

Did we lose any big time recruits in Louisiana this year to someone else?

It is a down year in LA and Rivals and Scout did not do very well looking at LA prospects. Next year will be the best recruiting class LSU has ever had, unless we lose a lot of coaches. But even then it will be very good if we hire a good coach.

All indications are that we would have EJ Manuel if Jimbo had stayed here. Jimbo was a very solid recruiter, and QBs supposedly wanted to come here to play for him.

That said, it is certainly true that geography is probably the single most important factor impacting recruits between high-quality programs. Fact is, you get most of the people who are geographically, and you lose most of the ones you want who are not geographically close.

Crowton pulled a lot of talent into Ruston, so I'm not worried about whether or not he can pick up Jimbo's slack...

Maybe so, but I think the biggest reason EJ went to FSU and Jimbo is because he would see the field earlier.

I guess we're a year off from being in a position for someone to look at LSU as having a chance to start in just his 2nd year (redshirt freshman). If Perrilloux kills as a junior, he may leave, however.

You got that kid that is going to Notre Dame. WTF? They already have the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ in Clausen (at least thats what we SHOULD believe), and now they get the 3rd coming of Jesus "Crist" just 1 year later. And the team is in such disarray its laughable. PLEASE SOMEONE EXPLAIN THAT TO ME!

Really dissappointed we could not even get a hint of interest from any of the big time QBs. Baffling really. Gary Crowton loves to sling the pigskin. It's a QB's dream to come to a team like LSU at this point and time. Or so it would seem. Sigh.

LSU has to snag a big time QB next year. I assume Louisiana has one coming up the ranks?

The situation would not look good for an incoming QB here. Ryan will likely stay for 2 years and then we have Jarrett Lee. FSU's QB situation would be much, much, much more favorable.
