I am very dissapointed to hear this. Bowe was always one of my favorite Tigers and always played great. What is the freaking deal with all these players getting suspended for diuretics? I don't know why these players would need them nor why using them would warrant a 4 game suspension. I mean it's not Steroids, HGH, Amphetamines, Coke or any of those things. I don't know what to think anymore. I really like Bowe but this is a boneheaded decision that will follow him throughout his time in the league. Maybe I don't know the whole story. But it is difficult for me to comprehend why a world class athlete who is just starting to make his mark...and millions at the NFL...would need to take diuretics. How bout he spend some of the fortune he's making on a top notch dietition/cook to prepare him healthy meals fit for a world class athlete. With the diet in check...proper training, lifting, cardio, practice, and game play should keep him in tip top shape! Errrrr. I'm not mad but I am dissapointed that our former tiger has shot himself and his career in the foot.:geaux:
ummmmm. diuretics are banned because they increase urine production and are often used to flush out evidence of other drugs. bad, bad sign.
maybe he did to mask drug use, but maybe he didn't. Even so, i am not going to trash DBowe for it. Personally i think steroids should be legal. If you are getting paid to do a job that requires you to be strong and fast, its your body, do whatever you want to it. Thats like banning coffee in the workplace. Thats another thread entirely though. Dwayne Bowe is one of my favorite Tigers of all time, and i wish him well, and would absolutely love to see him in New Orleans or Dallas. Diuretic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In medicine, diuretics are used to treat heart failure, liver cirrhosis, hypertension and certain kidney diseases. Some diuretics, such as acetazolamide, help to make the urine more alkaline and are helpful in increasing excretion of substances such as aspirin in cases of overdose or poisoning. Diuretics are often abused by sufferers of eating disorders, especially bulimics, in attempts at weight loss. The antihypertensive actions of some diuretics (thiazides and loop diuretics in particular) are independent of their diuretic effect. That is, the reduction in blood pressure is not due to decreased blood volume resulting from increased urine production, but occurs through other mechanisms and at lower doses than that required to produce diuresis. Indapamide was specifically designed with this in mind, and has a larger therapeutic window for hypertension (without pronounced diuresis) than most other diuretics.
Steroids, when used the way medicine intended, are wonderful drugs. The problem is that when your body is your livelihood, few have the capacity of self control to use them responsibly, and they are abused. Hell, even Joe Blow at the gym doesn't have that capacity. I have, as I am sure most people have, been prescribed steroids before, and I have also had access to those "other kind." I've seen what abuse can do, and it's not pretty. I think they need to stay illegal.
there have been tons of athletes who have used them and nothing bad has happened. Its your body. Steroids can also help athletes heal injuries faster, i mean we are talking about a person's livelihood. If you get injured with 4 weeks left in the season, and you have to get 4 more catches to get your million dollar bonus, but your injury is a 4-6 week injury, if you take some roids you can heal that injury in 2 weeks. Why can't you take them? I understand them being illegal at the college and high school level, but not at the professional level. They are called performance enhancing drugs. Your job is perform at the highest level, if you don't some other person is going to take food off of your plate.
Heart disease? Liver failure? Not to mention the psychological effects, like hostility and aggression. There is the potential to cause harm to others. That's exactly the kind of abuse I'm talking about. They are dangerous when used without medical supervision. I'm not sure we are going to see eye to eye on this one.
yeah probably not, i just think that if you want to take something that helps you do your job better, it should be your right.

That's the governments propaganda there speaking for you. Anabolic Steroids are much different then Cortico steroids... and as far as atheletes go, not 1 single pro athelete in any sport has died as a direct result of steroid use. Not one. Pro sports did the steroid thing to themselves anyway... you put a guy in a spot to make millions every year, then let "age" take effect... and he'll do whatever he needs to, to continue competing against younger talent. Diuretics are a different breed, mainly used to flush sub q water from under the skin... gives a more ripped and papert hin skin appearance... and can help increase speed. Not condoning or convicting... just saying. But until the money in sports is removed, there will always be steroids in sports.
