20 cents of every dollar he spends on gas, not to mention tires, oil and filter changes, will go to taxes. I think there would be more money available for infrastructure than currently available. The difference would be the number of people paying taxes. People that get paid cash like illegals, drug dealers, mafia, etc.. that have ways to get around the tax code. Even the kids that cut grass during the summer. Everyone that spends money would be taxed under the fair tax. The only problem is the govt would just find more bs to waste the extra revenue on.
@gyver you said a flat tax, not a national sales tax in your post. A flat tax would be on income, not spending, thus the confusion.
My bad. I got the two confused. I was sitting 20' up a tree in 25mph winds when I wrote that. Kinda nippy up there. Sorry about the confusion.
No, you are mischaracterizing my position Winston. I will never defend hate speech, regardless of the source. That said, it is a false equivalence to say that Melissa Harris-Perry and Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity are one in the same. For starters, Harris-Perry, who I am not a fan of at all, issued a very sincere and unequivocal apology. When is the last time Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Rush Limbaugh, Ted Cruz or any of the other crazies issued an apology for their hateful speech? Further, if you really were that concerned with leftists who said hateful things the poster boy should be Alec Baldwin, but his was about Gays and that makes it somehow okay. It's not just Rush, Winston. And yes, I have liked your comments when you distanced yourself from those who say stupid things and I am wondering why you are not doing so in this case. Everything PR said is offensive and should have been roundly condemned, if not for what he said about the LGBT community then for what he said about southern society in the 50's and if not for that then for saying 15-16 year old girls should be married off before they get to a point where they want to think for themselves. Instead we have an entire political party who are accusing everyone else of infringing upon his 1st amendment rights or imposing on his religious freedoms for criticizing his comments. What gives? These people are not actually angry with free speech or freedom of religion, they are actually pissed at the Free Market. I say this because PR signed a contract with A&E that while he was under contract with the show he wouldn't not make inflammatory comments regarding social issues. Now, this "righteous" man is being propped up as a savior for breaking the contract he signed his name to and want everyone else to forget about his contract, his word and bond, and focus on something completely unrelated: free speech and freedom of religion. At no time has PR's freedom of speech been infringed upon but the right wants to silence everyone else freedom of speech alright. At no time has PR's freedom of religion been infringed upon but the right wants to make this about freedom of religion just like their war on christmas and the church that are just bull shit. You are a smart guy, Winston. Reconsider this....
I don't get it NC. You go off on a tangent about PR when I never mentioned him or defended him. I will say he has the right to say what he wants and it can prove his mindset as being back in the 1850s...A&E also had the right to discipline him as you say...he broke his contract. My whole point and I stand by it is that there is as much hate and bigotry on the left as there is on the right. MHP and her coterie stunt was just the latest and happened to be publicized. There seems to be a continuing flow of "slip ups" from liberals as well...Martin Bashir, your buddy Alex etc. BTW I question the sincerity of MHP's apology as you see too often liberal blacks go to the gutter to attack conservatives and repeat after apologizing. That Rush et al don't apologize as they know they are feeding meat to the lions and are doing it for ratings. That IS NOT an excuse in fact it makes them more reprehensible to me but you know I hear Al Sharpton and others do similar on MSNBC. I post these articles as it seems to me that there is a flow in the public arena that only the right is hateful and bigoted...if you agree that is false (as you say above) then why do you leap off a cliff when the few mentions get posted? Seems to be an over reaction NC.
This isn't true. Flat out wrong. The contract does not speak to this at all, in any part. I would challenge your source, but I know you don't have one. And further the outrage on the comments about marrying 15 year olds is clearly taken out of context. He was using exaggeration for humourous effect. If you watched the entire speech instead of the selectively quoted portions it would be clear. CNN has twice tried to create controversy out of Robertson's speeches and twice they have failed, at least with the objective.
Winston, the thread is about the Duck Dynasty controversy. What else am I supposed to think? And are you, or are you not, defending his remarks? I've asked you this question repeatedly. I never said that liberals don't make offensive remarks, but you are making reference to a few isolated incidents when the drivel from the right is like a flowing river of insults. Further, when they are called on it they try to throw a pious argument about first amendment rights or freedom of religion. Rev Al Sharpton is not a very smart man so I make a point to avoid him.....well, I laughed my ass off at the blueberry pie commercials so I'll give him that, but I don't hear him making hate speech either. He is a partisan so I consider him a hack, but not a bigot. Again, you are pointing out the sliver of wood in the eye of the left while the right is walking around with a freaking tree sticking out of their eye. This is not a fair comparison. I didn't get a link so I couldn't read the article you posted. Post it again and I will read it.
