Riverboat gambler no. Mad Hatter yes. If not changing what you do after it doesn't work the first 20 times isn't completely mad, I don't know what is.
I don't know - I sorta think the Twilight Zone theory has legs. Nothing felt right at all for the entire period leading up to the game. The game itself felt flat - I've really never seen a team this good look like so many zombies out there. Truly, all joking aside, it just didn't look like the team we watched all year. I have no explanation. Almost as if the team got some REALLY bad news right before the game.
You know, I got sick this (NFL) season of hearing Andy Reid apologize every time the Eagles lost a game. But, along with the explanation you suggest, I think I'd like an apology and an admission of failure for this one. He said in the post-gamer that he pretty much said that to the team, but he needs to say it to the fans, too.
I know I am still to close to the edge ~!!!! Miles is off my dinner guest list for a couple of months.
Thanks for a kind word. I think a lot of people are still scratching their heads, and evidently even Bama is shocked. Literally nothing except the defense worked. I wanted so bad to pin it on a single cause, to say, "Well, JJ was just awful...well no the receivers weren't doing well either...and the O-line wasn't protecting well...which meant the runners were doing poorly..." A complete unilateral collapse of the offense, compounded with the fact that they didn't seem to care. I just don't know what happened. I can handle losing to Bama, even in the NC game. But this seems like more than just a loss.
I agree. Every coach loses a big game at some point but this was different and even if we get back to play in the last game again next year, this one was the biggest ever. It was almost "bigger" than a NC. It was Bama. It was in the Dome. It was 13-0. It was greatness. It was a very special set of circumstances and we didnt even compete or even have the appearance of preparedness, motivation or intestinal fortitude. The D did what they could but the coaching and ineptitude exceeded anything in this kind of game setting that I have ever watched. It was heart breaking because we all know that this team was so much better than what we saw Monday night. I still love my Tigers and I love the "game" of football and the passion that this state shows in support of this team, although misguided and delusional at times. There has to be an explanation. It's not like we are asking for a camera in the locker room or that we deserve to have Les Miles run every decision by us as fans but this steaming pile of embarassment deserves some kind of explanation because there WERE options, there was time, there was a 5th year senior on the sideline that was as responsible for getting us to the dome as anyone else on this team, and it was still technically a game. I don't think we will ever get an explanation. It's hard to believe there isn't a reason behind what turned out to be a worst case scenario/ nightmare of a game but I think Red already summed it up in one word- HUBRIS. I am still in shock from what I saw but it's in the books and over. We have great potential and loads of talent returning and we will cheer again and feel the joy of victory again but this was a big one and we didn't even look interested.
I keep trying to think of reason's why the Tigers showed up not ready to play on Monday. It's hard to imagine. When a team drives the length of the field, only to have a touchdown play called back because of a holding call, it definitely can demoralize a team's resolve. Maybe Alabama was our "holding call". After having the greatest regular season in history, including a win in Tuscaloosa, the powers that are the BCS said to LSU...we want you to do it again. Perhaps that, and 37 days to think about it, was too much for a team that rode an incredible purple and gold wave all year long. I'm not trying to make excuses for the team. Frankly, i'm extremely disappointed, and downright pissed off. But something threw them off, and it wasn't just a very good Alabama team.
you guys are right and i think Les and the leaders on the team owe the fan base at least an explanation of what happenned. And if Les best reason for contiueing to put jefferson on the field is he could avoid the past rush then i point blank call him a liar. And i support him with all my heart. Be honest Les or you lose alot of respect from me. Good or bad tell us the truth. Because if Lee did something and you dont come clean then you have not done your job as coach. You owe us the people that pay your salary an adequate explanation. Because if that was the truth and you kept him in because of what you said then i will start questioning your ability as a coach. Because it speaks to your judgement. Never be afraid of the truth. The way lost the fan base deserves an answer so we can move on. This is like a relative dying with no body recovered. You cant move on till the body is found. Les tell us where the body is!!!
