after scanning TF i was wondering where the Drilling Moratorium thread was; maybe i missed it, or its tied up with the Horizon thread.

Obama is on the verge of devastating the US deepwater oil industry with his 'feel good' moratorium. Deepwater rigs are lining up to flee to Brazil, Africa, and around the globe, at a cost of 12-15 million to transport rigs out of the GOM.
When the moratorium is lifted these rigs will not come running back. They will have new contracts.

The devastating effects of the moratorium will be far reaching; layoffs directly in the oil industry, to docks like Port Fourchon (which will be devastated) to service companies, machine shops, fabricators, etc, etc...

The lingering tragedy of the horizon accident, aside from the men who died, will not be the oil in the gulf which will evaporate and decompose, disperse, or the relatively few animals and marsh that will die, or shrimpers who are actually working in select waters, or a handful of oyster fisherman that will lose their livelihood (and work for the cleanup, maybe even start Environmental Companies,

the real lingering Tragedy of all this will be the thousands and thousands of ruined families because of the 'feel good' deepwater drilling moratorium.

correct. that is why we should never be clamoring for obama to do something about the spill, because like i said before, the odds are he is going to do something horrible. we shouldnt complain if obama is on vacation or is ignoring the problem or whatever, we should hope he never pays attention at all.

Losing nearly $400k/day/rig means there is no way they can stay in the gulf. They have to go, and will be going soon. All Obama has to do is drag his feet for another month or so and La's $70 billion oil and gas revenue gets gutted. And the rigs won't come running back once the ban is lifted. There is oil other places.

I should be amazed that he is willing to do this, but I am coming to the conclusion that wrecking everything in the private sector is his goal. Govt just gets more control when that happens, and he has been consistent on that matter. Safety in the gulf is an issue to be addressed, but considering the repercussions for the industry, and for La in particular, the moratorium is criminal.

the US obligation to make sure the MMS and oil companies know what they are doing is paramount. because, evidently, neither knew what they were doing.

Maybe the commission will issue a report in about a year. Wonder what the economy in La will look like by then. Oh yeah, and the price of oil also since the gulf supply will be taken out of the domestic equation.

That won't have much of an effect.

I totally agree with your post here.
Let me just say that I do think Obama is wrecking the country on purpose.
He did say that he would remake the country in his image.
Rahm Emanual did say that you should never let a crisis go to waste.
Its amazing with total control of the country that they have come out of the closet and announced their intentions.
Obama has threatened to shut down the coal industry in the past and shutting down oil
is no different, he doesn't like anything other than green energy.
If that means wrecking the economy and calling to an end of capitalism, he will describe it as a failure and he will proclaim that he has a fix like everything else.
Then he will usher in socialism if congress gets away with allowing this.

Heck Obama is the only one left in the country with any power.
The congress have delegated all of their power to him and rubber stamped everything else.

Obama is all about power and control, his words say one thing and his actions say something else.
It will be interesting to see if Obama will give up this power and control peacefully one day!
Lets not forget that we have never had a president like this guy.
He is Saul Alinsky and some in his cabinet look up to Ho Chi Minh.

    Outrageous!
