There's no easy answer. Seoul is a city of 20 million people right on the border in easy artillery range. Using nuclear weapons on the border would kill as many SKs as NKs. We have a division on the border also exposed. They're basically a trip wire similar to the brigades we had in Berlin during the cold was.
In addition to the threat to Seoul the fear of millions of NK refugees streaming south is real and possibly destabilizing.
Likewise the Chinese are terrified of millions of refugees streaming north into China. That would destabilize the regime. The Chinese have no love for Kim but are hamstrung.
These factors have allowed the Kims to thumb their nose at the world. Negotiations over the last 50+ years have been useless because the NKs understood their position. This has been true for 12 presidents.
With the development of NK nuclear and missle capability the room for maneuver is more restricted. If you notice the Chinese and Russians joined in voting for the latest round of sanctions. The Chinese also have moved army units to their NK border. The pressure is ratcheting up on Kim.
Perversely Trump saber rattling may actually help. It adds pressure to the Chinese to act before Trump does.
I don't see a good ending to this. Kim is backed into a corner. The only hope is a coup that decapitates Kim and allows a relaxation of tensions. To blame Trump alone as @Rex does is to ignore facts and history.

Man where is your sense of humor? OK but you are not going to like it. We are in this pickle with NK because of Clinton, partly GWB and Obama. Had we had a strong guy like a Trump running this country for the last 24 years something would have been done. And because of Obama we will be in the same position with Iran in the not too distant future. Trump is doing the best he can and got the UN to go along with very tough sanctions hopefully to starve them financially, politically and literally till his people revolt and kill the loony SOB. Trump is left cleaning up 3 weak presidents messes. And speaking of mindless, of course your and others mindless and unfounded hate of Trump will not allow you to be open minded about how to go forward. I posted what Trump has accomplished despite the democrats, the media, Hollywood and some in his own partys total opposition to try to get the haters here to comprehend but to no avail. So I resort to annoying gifs so I dont waste so much time on long retorts like this.

So with all this said I will ask you; what has Trump done since the election that is so bad? Below is what we know he has done.

1.Trump put a true blue conservative on the supreme court something GWB couldnt even do.
    2. He has rolled back draconian EPA regulations that destroy American jobs.
    3. He has declared war on MS13 and criminal illegal aliens and rooting them out, he wants to shut down illegal immigration (what other nations allow people to walk into their counties and break their existing immigration law?).
    4. He is trying to shut down sanctuary cities.
    5. He got us out of that dangerous and ridiculous Paris Climate Fraud agreement.
    6. He is trying his best to get us out of Obama care despite total democrat, media and some in his own party's opposition.
    7. The stock market is at an all time high and more jobs are being created just because of his attitude.
    8. He has withdrawn from that stupid Trans-Pacific Partnership.
    9. He put a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbing for other countries.
    10. He has stepped up the war on Isis.
    11. He has gotten NATO to start paying their fair share for the alliance.
    12. He is renegotiating NAFTA to benefit us more.
    13. He has approved the XL pipeline and he has adopted an America First energy policy.
    14. Got the UN to agree to much much tougher sanctions against N Korea.
    15. He is attacking the opioid epidemic with force.
    16. He is trying to do something about the disgusting lack of free speech on college campuses.
    17. He is trying for a huge tax cut for the American people and industry to create yet more jobs.

Did Obama do any of this during his 8 years? Would the 1-hillary-witch-2-768x432.jpg have done any of this if elected?

Trump just set his own, uncrossable 'red line' — and North Korea crossed it instantly
    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/09/tru...ne--and-north-korea-crossed-it-instantly.html

President Donald Trump appears to have painted himself into a corner: He must now follow up on his pledge of hitting North Korea with "fire and fury," or he risks further blowing U.S. credibility.

Kim Jong-un's regime said late on Tuesday that it might strike Guam. That came shortly after Trump warned Pyongyang it would face "power, the likes of which this world has never seen before" if the renegade state continued to threaten the U.S.

"If the red line he drew today was 'North Korea cannot threaten the U.S. anymore,' that line was crossed within an hour of him making that statement,".

The episode draws parallels to President Obama's own geopolitical red line.

In 2013, the former leader said the use of chemical weapons in Syria's civil war would trigger an American military response. But when it happened, Obama failed to follow up on his promise — a move that critics, including Trump, said weakened Washington's position as a superpower.

"Trump is drawing a decisive red line for himself, we all think back to Obama's red line in Syria, which ultimately became an embarrassment for him,".

A U.S. offensive on North Korea isn't likely anytime soon, experts said, which means Trump just made the same mistake as his predecessor. "Certainly, the president cannot back up a red line,". Defense secretary James Mattis and new chief of staff John Kelly are unlikely to sign off on any military action, so this may just be yet another example of "Trump being Trump and firing off his mouth,".

 something needs to be done, but blustery rhetoric is pure stupidity.
