Right which is why her point didn't make sense. The woman said her white husband's family was always cutting her down and using the n word in reference to her. Then Dr. Laura went off on some rant about how black comedians and rappers use it all the time
OK, after reading this, I started to wonder if I knew what had happened. I only read a few references, and heard her mea culpa, along with some of her appearance on Larry King's show. Here's a link to the unedited audio of the call: FULL AUDIO: Dr. Laura Schlessinger's N-word rant | Media Matters for America After hearing that, I'm still on her side. "Jade" never said that her husband's family and friends use the "N word," or that they cut her down. When asked for an example of their racism, she said: When she realized LS was going to stick to her "hypersensitive" argument, she said: At that point, LS dropped her first stick of n-bombs, and went to a break seconds later. After the break, Jade told her she was offended by her use of the word. She also tried to make the case that white people are more afraid of black people now that there's a black president. LS responded (correctly) that Obama doesn't get elected without substantial white voter support. Having lost that argument, Jade tried the following: (and where I used n***, the actual word was said on-air) So, what I got from "Jade" right there is that, intent matters not, the n-word is OK for black people to use only, and I gotcha!. LS took her off the air at that point, with the parting shot - Sorry, I don't think she was all that off in her opinion, and she absolutely did not go off on some kind of hateful, racist rant.
What you don't seem to understand is that white people are not allowed to have an opinion on race and if they speak an opinion on race they are racist. The mere fact that she is white and had an opinion on race makes her racist. Now if she would have said that we need to kill a few crackers and their babies that would be all right.
It's just a word. Black people (not just black men) use it all the time. It is beyond a doubt a double standard. That said - it carries so much baggage from such a dark time in American history, that I have no problem with this particular double standard. It does not harm me to not say the word. It does not harm me when black Americans say the word. It's one of those exceptions to the rule that I'm happy to accept and move on. Just a personal opinion.
You obviously missed that video, but I'm not surprised. The liberal media didn't give it nearly as much play as Dr Laura. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3MbqupVxMY
That's fine, but it still leaves us with a woman who would have been forced out of her career had she not voluntarily given it up, and seen her good name destroyed because she said a word....not even her intent in saying the word, but because she said a word. If our goal is a world in which people are judged, not by the color of their skin, but on the content of their character, this kind of hypocracy (sp?) can not be swept under the carpet.
I hear you. I think it's completely overblown. But it's show business. It's not like she didn't know she was taking a risk going where she went. We'll see how it pans out - even Don Imus survived.
Dude, that's some radical extremist from a fringe group, not a nationally syndicated talk radio host. Let him say what he wants. Other than his homies standing next to him, the vast majority of people (even blacks) find him to be a nut. And what about Sherrod being blasted for her remarks (by both the NAACP and Obama's White House Officials), so much so that she was forced to resign, despite the video being edited to show her in a false light? She was reamed for nothing, and she's black. Well, I shouldn't say nothing. She is a liberal democrat. That makes it okay, I guess. I can't stand Obama either, but the solution isn't found in making asinine, inflammatory statements and totally disregarding the faults among one's own side of the fence. That's what politicians do.
my neighbors (black) wont say it in front of me. my neighbor uses "negro" or "ghetto" but still gets an elbow from his wife. my problem with it is getting in trouble for actually saying the word even if its not in reference to anything. saying "the N word" is exactly the same as really saying it. just like those idiots that say "frick" all the time.
