Re: Glenn Dorsey wins Lombardi Award That probably has more to do with the Heisman being an offensive player award. Dorsey will win all the major defensive awards he's a finalist for. The Nagurski/Bednarik is basically the Heisman for defensive players. So at least those voters recognize Dorsey's dominance
A HEALTHY Mr. D will win just about every trophy that gets in his way for quite some time. I predict rookie pro bowl for that silly game they play on Sundays as well.
Re: Glenn Dorsey wins Lombardi Award The Heisman is more of an offensive players award which is why no one is nominating Dorsey. Is he the best player in college football? Not quite but he is up there with anyone on any given year. So just because no one feels he should win the Heisman doesnt take away from what he brings to the table. My top five college players for this year: 1 McFadden 2 Tebow 3 Dorsey 4 Hart 5 Laurinaitis
Another East Ascension Spartan done good. (My old HS BTW)! I'm sure his picture is hanging in the auditorium! Awesome job!!!! :tigereye::tigereye::tigereye::tigereye:
Re: Glenn Dorsey wins Lombardi Award The Heisman is not more of an offensive player award. The Heisman is the MVP of college football. It goes to the best player in college football, whether he be offensive, defensive, or special teams. Sure, the Heisman, just like NFL MVPs, usually go to QB's and running backs, because that is such a crucial position for a team (I'd take a superstar QB or RB over a superstar DT any day if I had to choose when building my own team). You say that Dorsey is not the best player in college football. That's what I'm saying. It has nothing to do with offense vs. defense, it just has to do with the fact that Dorsey is not the best player in college football. Sure, if he had 15 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 15 passes batted down, 2 interceptions, and some kind of big play, like a interception or fumble return for a TD in a big game, then yeah, he'd have a good shot at winning the Heisman. But the way it went down this year (and sure Dorsey got hurt bad on that stupid chop-block by Auburn), Dorsey was not the best player in the country. That's all I'm saying. It has nothing to do offense vs. defense. In fact, the other great DT in college football besides Dorsey is USC's Sedrick Ellis. Sure, Dorsey got hurt, but Dorsey didn't even do as good as USC's DT Ellis this year. USC's Ellis had 8.5 sacks in 12 games (0.71 sacks per game), 12.5 tackles for loss (1.04 per game), 56 tackles (4.67 per game), 6 passes broken up, and no forced fumbles. Dorsey had 6 sacks in 13 games (0.46 sacks per game), 11.5 tackles for loss (0.89 per game), 64 tackles (4.92 per game), 3 passes broken up, and no forced fumbles. Point is, Dorsey is considered better than Ellis by everyone (although everyone considers Ellis a badass who is a close second to Dorsey), and it sucks that Dorsey got chop-blocked, but DT Ellis did more for USC than DT Dorsey did for LSU. So Ellis was more valuable to USC's team this year than Dorsey was to LSU's team this year (only because Dorsey got hurt). My whole point is that the year Dorsey had this year is not even close to being the most valuable performance that a player in college football had for his team this year. That said, I do hope he has an awesome performance in the NC. Kinda like Marcus Spears did in 2003. I hope Dorsey gets some sort of memorable play, like a big game-breaking sack, forced fumble, interception, return for a TD, something like that. Dorsey deserves it.
Re: Glenn Dorsey wins Lombardi Award Fact is, the Heisman is an offensive player award. History backs it up. If it goes to the best player in football, I have trouble comprehending that there has only been one defensive player to win it all. The offensive players get the glamor and the glorified stats. And not every NFL GM would agree with the last statement, there's a reason Glenn Dorsey is projected as a top 5 pick. The Heisman isn't won with stats either. If it were, Colt Brennan would have won last year and Tebow would be a runaway winner this year. I agree that is has become more of an "MVP" award when it's really supposed to be a MOP kind of award. Many times it is giftwrapped for a player in the preseason (cough troy smith cough) and all they need to do is have a solid year. But judging a players value compared to their team is near impossible. It's hard to judge that Ellis was more valuable than Dorsey. You would have to be in both locker rooms at every game and on the field at every game to know that answer. Again, that is very judgemental. The fact the coaches voted him the SEC defensive player of the year says a lot to me. The coaches in the SEC realize that he is the most dominant and valuable defensive player and they are the ones that have to coach against him. Me too, it would be a great way to cap off his career at LSU and make his coming back for his senior year worth it. :geaux:
Re: Glenn Dorsey wins Lombardi Award Look, I explained this to you once. The people who vote on the Heisman or the NFL MVP do not feel that they have to give it to an offensive player. Anyone who believes that is ignorant (when it comes to football). If a defensive player has this unbelievable season, he will easily get the Heisman or NFL MVP (because the people who vote on the Heisman or NFL MVP, just like the rest of us, would love to see more defensive players winning the Heisman or NFL MVP). As for your theory that a NFL team would rather have a solid DT over a solid QB or RB, that's insane. Sure Dorsey is projected top 5 in the Draft, but only because those teams that would pick him already have a solid QB or RB (or no solid QB or RB is available from this year's class). When I said USC, I mean USC-west, not USC-east. Ellis plays for USC-west (the University of Southern California Trojans). Of course Dorsey is the best DT in the SEC, but Ellis at the University of Southern California is the other beast at DT in college football this year. And he had a better year that Dorsey did this year (but Dorsey has been playing hurt since the Auburn game).
I,m sure if they haven't by now, they will, probably at some ceremony. My little brother talked to him quite a few times at games there. He said it really impressed him how outgoing he is. A really nice guy.His cousin plays for our (cross town rivals St Amant) and he would attend the games when he could. My nephew plays for EA. East Ascension has always been known for tough defense.
