Some news outlets are reporting a .12 BAC. If true, that is very bad news for Mr. Stallworth. I never liked the guy but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
No winners on this one for sure. And yes, issttl, I do believe you had it right, assuming Florida implies recklessness for DWI.
30 fricking day in Jail for DUI Manslaughter. WTF. complete Bullchit. Donte Stallworth of Cleveland Browns reaches financial agreement with family of victim Mario Reyes - ESPN
Obviously bought his way out. Not uncommon for the famous really. But can you blame the family? DS has actually shown some class in this situation by immediately owning up and showing genuine remorse to the family. So, if they believe he is truly sorry, they can try to get him in jail for ten years and spend half that time trying to get some money out of him, or they can get a couple mill today and move on. Don't know anything about their financial situation but the guy was running to catch the bus so I imagine he doesn't also have a mercedes.
Gotta agree. You can get drunk and kill a pedestrian and get 30 days, BUT DON'T GET CAUGHT FIGHTING DOGS!!! You'll get 2 years! Doesn't make sense...
The family wanted to settle fast and take the money. Theres a law in florida called contributory negligence. They guy was in the middle of the street, is what his lawyer would have argued. So instead of taking of chance of the family getting no money and DS getting no time, they settled. Its bs to me, because you put a guy in jail for a year and he loses all his money for fighting dogs, but this guy killed a human being and gets 30 days. Aint our legal system beautiful.
