The past is done and the future is coming. Use this game to rebuild some confidence and the next 2 weeks to get bamas ass kicking ready.
Since you brought this up...(note that this is not directed at you...I enjoy reading every single one of your posts and highly value your insight.) I don't get why LSU fans think we should run up scores on any opponent. Just because the CUMs and Prick Sabans of the world engage in this type ethically bankrupt version of sportsmanship, why should we? We're better than that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sportsmanship The sportsfan pu$$ies on this board (you know...the ones that act like they can take a hit like a man but cry like the babies they are in reality if we EVER lose one friggin game) like to set up the "IF...THEN" preconditions for everyone to buy into in order to define their version of outcome acceptability. All of these "if...then" presuppositions are nothing but bankrupt logic. Setting the expectation that we need to route any opponent is simply another "IF...THEN" logic proposition (all of which are based on unstated premises that are required to be true in order for the logic to be sound). Personally, I think LSU is a superior program when we internalise and radiate the positive ethos of sportsmanship. Ole Miss never forgave us when Houston Nutt was coach and we started kneeling on the ball to run down the clock long before anyone expected us to. This was not only an amazing demonstartion of true sportsmanship, but it inflamed the opponent when we sent the message that they were not worth bothering to run the score up on. Running up the score does nothing but bring us down collectively to the infantile mindset that necessitates running up the score. BTW...if you're still in NOVA, we should get together and watch a game together sometime. Lived in Alexandria for a few years and its been a while since I have been to some of my old watering holes.
Nick does everything but try to run up the score. Often it just happens. I hate watching them run out the clock like we do. Boring shit.
Herb, well said, and thank you for the compliment. I enjoy your posts and insight as well. It has been stated a number of times, this message board is the best for intelligent and civil discussion concerning LSU sports. To be totally frank, I'm not a proponent of running up the score. To CLM's credit, his LSU teams have generally refrained from doing it. Your example of the Ole Miss from a couple of years ago is a prime example. In reexamining my post, my thought process was essentially frustration that we lost to Ole Miss while the offense sputtered, combined with the very vanilla offense in the Florida game. Don't get me wrong, I'm always happy to beat Florida; I am looking at that game now via what Missouri did to the Gators with a backup QB. I am thinking that it's time now to do on offense what was successful over the first six games... I am also on record as pro-Miles. I really like the guy and I'm glad he's our coach. That said, I don't always agree with his decisions. You make an excellent point regarding the "if-then" logic (or lack thereof). I find it comical at times, infuriating at others. There's a certain element who are always quick to pull the trigger and say get rid of the guy, without any real basis, or with suggestions as to a better option. We all know LSU is not going to fire a coach who has won 80% of his games. I am still in Northern VA (Centreville), and it would be great to meet up and watch a game sometime. Let me know when you'll be in the area and hopefully we can arrange something. Geaux Tigers!
For the record, I'm not a proponent of running up the score either. I damn sure say put it away, the ole miss game when we kneeled on the goal line with 3 or 4 min left was pretty awesome. To the rest of the post, I don't really care if we run it X% of time as long as it is effective. If you are getting 6 or 7 ypc then hell yeah run that bitch until the clock runs out. When you are getting somewhere around .5 ypc and you continue to pound it off the guards ass then there is a problem. That is a lot of words to say "someone needs to call a good effective game"
I like the concept of putting away the game too. I think some level of cushion in the score is good and necessary. If you can maintain a 14 point lead, you are in control.
Hopefully Mett doesn't hardly play at all this week.......it's time to get next year's qb's some playing time.
