Ya...and the winning run didnt even score. Too bad for the Padres they dont have instant replay in MLB although I was pulling for the Rocks!
My two cents. If the Padres catcher holds on to the ball, I think the ump calls him out. The umps blew Atkins homer in the 8th which ended up being a double. Guess things have a way of evening out.
What an insane game that was. The instant replay debate will surface once again and nothing will happen once again. In the post-game interview Holliday was asked he touched the plate, he said "I don't know, the umpire said I did." Perfect answer to a play like that and he probably didn't know after that collision with the ground. Maybe he grazed the plate with his finger. Maybe that last call makes up for the HR call earlier. The Padres can't complain too much. If they would have taken care of business over the weekend then last night's game would have never happened.
I love the Rockies. They are an exciting bunch. The Padres are the most boring team in the majors. I am glad they didn't make the playoffs only to score 3 runs in 3 games and go out in 3 straight for the 3rd consecutive year.
What an amazing series of blown calls in critical situations! My guess is MLB will institute some sort of instant replay for next year.
As long as Bumbling Bud is the Commish, I wouldn't think so. Interestingly enough, Tim McClelland would favor it. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/playoffs/2007-10-02-mcclelland-call_N.htm
On the homerun they called the double, how could the umps screw that one up? After hitting the wall, the ball bounced UP!!!!! Only way to do that, is if it bounced of the top of the wall (i.e. homerun). If it hit off the face of the wall, it would have bounced downward.
The amazing streak continues. Great win that guarantees at least a split in Philly. A win tomorrow would be super considering the Rocks are starting a rookie pitcher.
