Who could have thought after the first 2 months of the season (and the Rockies looking about as bad as you can), that they would go into the very last weekend of play with a chance at home field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. But that is exactly where they find themselves. Granted they have to sweep the Dodgers on the road and hope for 2 more Philly losses, but the fact that it is even a possibility is mindboggling. Sitting at 20-32 on June 3rd, the Rockies have gone 71-36 since then.
And a lions share of the credit goes to Jim Tracy. If he isn't the NL MOY then they should quit giving the award. I've gotta admit I kind of lost interest in 'em when they got off to the horrendous start under Hurdle. The amazing thing is with the exception of Helton, most fans probably couldn't name 3 Rockies starters. I've been watching them almost nightly for the last 2 months and they have played outstanding ball in all phases of the game. It will be interesting to see if they can keep it up in the playoffs.
Rockies beat the Dodgers in a tough tight one 4-3. Phillies lose. Rockies possibly 2 more wins away from home field in the NL. Crazy.
Phillies lose again. As of right this second, the Colorado Rockies control their own destiny to both win the NL West AND to get home field throughout the NL playoffs. Enjoy. If they win tonight and beat their best in Kershaw, I guarantee a win tomorrow.
Top 7th, no score between Dodgers and Rockies Jose Contreras has pitched 3 scoreless innings for the Rockies after De La Rosa apparently was injured (not sure, but he was pulled after just 3 innings). Rockies possibly 3 innings away from tying up the division.
