I was on the phone w/ a Gump a couple of days ago. She works for a company that my company does occasional business with. These people are so convinced that Saban is going to turn around their program, and that any day now, they're going to be crowned National Champs, and that the rest of the world is going to bow down to them. This lady talked like Bama was "BACK"!!! She thinks that this #1 recruiting class will translate into SEC titles and Top 5/ 10 finishes. To antagonize her, I asked her, "when was the last time Bama beat LSU or Auburn?" "In order to finish in the Top 5/ 10, Bama will have to beat US BOTH in the same season!" That remark really sent her into meltdown mode. She tried to say that LSU will decline as the next few years go by- that LSU will be playing w/ Miles players instead of Saban's players. So I reminded her that next year Bama had to come to Death Valley and that our Tigers would crush the Gumps. She hung up on me right after I said, "Be sure to check out BOTH of those recent National Championship banners while you're there!" I gotta tell you guys, that was one of the most satisfying phone conversations I have ever had ..... "Have a great day!" :crystal::champs::crystal::champs::crystal:
Well, I agree with her that Saban will turn it around- hell, from 6-6 the year before he got there, he already has. Seriously though, I do. Not that it means a National Title anytime soon/ever but I fully expect Bama to be in the mix in the next couple of years. As for us playing with Miles' players vs. Saban's, she's obviously repeating what she's hearing cause 99.9% of women don't have much understanding of the actualy game, much less following recruiting. Vball's a freak, with Stacey O and batty right on her heels.
I completely agree. Saban will get them back into SEC contention in a couple more years. The SEC is only going to get tougher! I was only pointing out that Bama fans act like they've got a miracle worker roaming their sidelines. It really cracks me up. I often wonder if they'll have the patience to wait 2 or 3 more years, or longer, so that Saban can get their program rebuilt. But I don't really care. As long as LSU can stay in contention, continue the solid recruiting classes, maintain 92,000 fans at Tiger Stadium, and trips to BCS Bowl games every couple of years I'll be happy. "Have a great day!" Bammers!!! :crystal::champs::crystal::champs::crystal:
Here's something to chew on... That banner is from BOL, the Alabama site on Rivals. Funny, you make a statement like that when the LSU Rivals.com owner told Burton at Rivals that anytime Saban recruited a DB he should automatically be upgraded to a 5 star. Of course, I'm sure Mike S. feels differently about that now.
Great class Terry. Congrats. Here's something to chew on... Do something more than lose 6 games in a season, 5 games in a row to your "non-rivals", and 6 games in a row to your rivals. When bama does that, people are less likely to give them crap for crowing about their "National Championship".
I do believe the crowing in the SEC is left to USCe fans, is it not? I, like a lot of Bama fans, are very happy with this class. But I, unlike some Bama fans, am not talking about where this class is ranked...but, then again, I do believe I was told a few times on this forum that Saban wouldn't be able to recruit the state of Alabama like he did Louisiana, wasn't I? Saban is doing what I expected him to do. It's another case of a "return on the investment," wouldn' you say? You can say what you like, but I see last season a bit different than you do. The team doubled the amount of in conference wins. Was the team blown out of any game? No. Funny thing...I see UT scored 14 points against the vaunted LSU defense and strangely enough scored the same amount of points against Alabama. You know where the difference is? We scored 41 vs UT. When we faced LSU it was a team dealing with losses (injury and suspensions) and struggled at times. Cry, no shout, ULM. It's a team that isn't far away. Yes, and the point of your comment is...?
It's an excuse for Bama when they have injuries but not LSU? We stared our back up QB and had several defensive players playing with injury when we played UT. If LSU was fully healthy we probably would have held them to 0 and scored 41. Your point proves nothing.
You know, Terry, you are absolutely right. Bama WILL win the SEC Championship in 2008 AND win IT ALL in 2009. There's no doubt about this. I'm not as closed-minded about Bama as most LSU fans are. I freely admit that Bama is back, better than ever. Bama = SEC in 2008. Bama = National Champs in 2009 ( and quite possibly 2010)
Unlike some? The thread is about the banner proclaiming the recruiting national championship bannner on BOL. I would imagine the average bammer understands that means their ranking was #1. Maybe I am giving the average bammer too much credit. Not by me, but regardless, I don't think this(excuse the pun), 'banner year' for recruits in bama will be indicative over the long term. Like it or not, if Tubby stays, he will provide you with competition we just don't suffer from here. Your success this year notwithstanding, every year won't be this easy and Auburn is not going to go away while he is there. I would say recruiting is a big part of it. But so is game day and wins. Your investment was ridiculously large and upfront. I would say that recruiting has eased the burn of last year's record. Being blown out is now the benchmark, not victories? And you are actually using transitive logic to show what? That you were better than us last year? By far the weakest thing you have ever offered up here. And I hesitate to even give credence to your claim of dealing with losses of players. You are actually saying that to us? Really? Do I even need to point out how silly that sounds? Not far away from what? Being able to beat SEC teams on a regular basis? A BCS bowl? Dude, you laid an egg. A big one. An embarrassing one. Own it. There is no rationalization for this one. You are just going to have to accept the magnitude of this loss and also accept that people will use it as a benchmark of your year. Being a fan, it is understandable that you will see more positives than we do, but you just can't spin out of this one.
