Don't be surprised if all the playoff talk suddenly dies now

This was the third-lowest BCS title game of all time so I just find it hard to believe that ESPN was pulling the strings for a boring defensive rematch that nobody outside the SEC wanted to see.

I think what ESPN wants is the playoffs like everybody else. Just in terms of ratings, a 4 team playoffs would give them another game to bring in big ratings. And, the time for the playoffs would give their talking heads another week to fill the void and talk and talk.

No one wanted this game to happen... That is why there will be a playoff in 2014.

The rest of the country would have loved to see Stanford or Ok St in there..

This is what I don't understand. ESPN essentially removed all of the drama from their own BCS Selection Show by running the crawl during Bedlam. That's after every national media personality stated before the 5 Nov game that a Bama loss would eliminate the chance of a rematch.

The only explanation I can give is that ESPN looks at college football the same way that they look at Major League Baseball. MLB has become all Yankees-Red Sox, all the time. Even when one of those teams has missed the playoffs three of the last four years, because the Rays have been winners with a tenth of their payrolls, the only baseball matchups that get any traction is Yankees-Red Sox. ESPN/FOX/MLB Network would go crazy if it were possible for the Yankees to meet the Red Sox in the World Series.

For college football, the South represents the same type of devotion that the Northeast shows for baseball. So in this analogy, Bama is the Yankees (pretty good comparison based on past success) and we are the Red Sox. And OK St was the Rays, and the national media decided they weren't really interested in seeing them again. If OU had Ok St's season, they would have held off the Tide, because the media would be excited for a Red Sox-Dodgers type championship.

The focus on Yankees-Red Sox has made baseball unwatchable to me these days.

I disagree, I think it was great match up between two best teams in college. That was football, not going back an forth scoring touchdowns. Scoring 80, 100, 120 points a game. That's boring. Sec is best real football in the world. Period!! Until someone proves otherwise. That being said, I'm definately for a plus one. That way all the other conferences maybe will stop crying an then they will have no more if an buts were candy an nuts we could win a Bcs title

The whole BCS concept was that the regular season is a playoff and every game counts and this just proved that it isnt the case....there will be changes and I hope there is a playoff so then there wont be so much crying

You underestimate how many people want to see a WVU hang 70 on other teams. The trend iin the NFL is moving toward a passing-dominated game. For all its self-righteous piety over player safety, the real reason for all the rule changes pampering QBs and receivers, while handicapping safeties, is scoring. Casual football fans that the NFL desperately craves want to see points on the board. It's the same reason that MLB ignored rampant steroid abuse for a decade, and why the NBA once banned zone defenses. Casual fans want to see scoring. And as goes the NFL, so goes college football.

Don't believe me? Go look up the number of football "analysts" and commentators after the 11/5 game talking/writing about how boring it was, even though you, me, and most serious football fans were glued to their TVs.

Maybe so, yet defensive football wins championships. An if we do get a playoff I still think the team with a great defense, strong running game and a effective passing game will win the championship. And probably will come from the sec as it has the past six years. I see no reason that's gonna change anytime soon.

A team with a smothering defense and a solid ball-control offense will shut down a gunslinger offense more often than not. I have a feeling the Saints are about to learn this the hard way this weekend.
