I have heard that he runs more of a spread offense from other posters on the boards. If this is true, it may be more likely that we offer 2 more WR's. It seems like he uses every formation in the book from what I was hearing. Perhaps we would have a little less emphasis on FB and TE in the future and more on receivers and this may alter our recruiting numbers at these positions.
Tolliver and McKnight if not convinced that LSU is the place to be sure knows it now. This is offense like we have never seen at LSU. Nothing anywhere close to it.
Does anyone know what his normal set is the vast majority of the time? For instance does he use 3 or 4 wideouts often?
Yes he loves the spread offense. At LaTech it was an all out passing assault the likes we had never seen before (ala Colt Brennan with Hawaii). He got his wideout a nice payday with the Pittsburgh Steelers, although he was a huge bust. But that won't scare running backs from coming here, as Oregon averaged over 185 yards rushing. So he isn't one dimensional. Nowhere close. He takes what the defense gives him. You'll see LSU pass for 400 yards one game and rush for 250 the next.
It may affect the type of back we recruit though right? Wouldn't we lean toward faster backs who have good receiving skills rather than big bruisers? Hester, Keiland, Mcknight would seem to have advantages over Broussard types. Correct me if I'm wrong. Again does anyone know what the Crowton's normal set will be 3WR's, 4WR's. There are all types of spread offenses.
I watched zero Oregon games last year. How does he compare to Urban Myer's approach to the spread offense? What are the chances that next year will be as rough for us as it was for florida in Myers first year? Will his version of the spread offense have to be adjusted much for the SEC?:geauxtige
IMO we will always need a big bruiser. When your at 3rd and goal on the 2 you don't want to have to resort to gimmick or pass play every time b/c you don't have a steamroller running back. I would hope we will continue to recruit both fast, and bruiser backs.
I just registered on an Oregon Duck msg board, and posed the question about Crowton's style of offense. I will report back what I get in response.
I think you will see in the 08 recruiting season that LSU will lure a top 3 QB to the program, much like Perrilloux was.
