You're missing the possibility. An AU loss and an LSU win, then The NCAA announces Cams ineligibilty, what door now opens? That's what the rumor is implying. The NCAA and SEC want to make sure there is a qualified relacement for AU though before they make the move. One that could make it to the MNC. They need a reason and an AU loss would give it to them.
if there is a one loss team in the ncg, i would think the ncaa would prefer it not be one that will likely have to vacate if the win. or have more controversy on even being there. there is enough controversy and fight in keeping the bcs system propped up as it is.
If the rumors were true, I would think the NCAA would drop the hammer after the end of the regular season games, i.e. at least the Iron Bowl, if not after the Sat. games. If what they have is enough to can Auburn, I don't think they would want to taint the SECG winner nor the National Champion, if Auburn happens to win out. It would be a HUGE black eye and mess to take back a SEC champion and/or a NC champion. Still, LSU has got to take care of business. Judging from the 2007 season, stranger things may happen. If the NCAA were to make any announcements, I'd rather they make it after Sat., as it can be very distracting and unfair to teams that can be affected.
I think it's this. He was lobbying in 2007. "I've got to go prepare with my dam strong football team."
See Legacy's response in the LSU video preview: LSU v ARK thread by KirbySmith4life. I think it is the 4th post.
It's a good thing he didn't  Maybe Coach P at Boise "knew something we don't know" about Nevada.... :geaux:
