Nice nutshell of what it is like to be Tiger fan from any perspective. I would also add. Some fans, myself included, are desperatly afraid of going back to days past when LSU considered a really successful season a trip ANY bowl. Not saying that we will not have future seasons that are like the current or slightly worse, but I just get nervous at times that something (in this case, a lackluster coach) is going to drive us back down. Then we will need 2-3 years to face reality and make a change...then 2,3,4,5 years to dig back out. I am a life long Tiger fan...nothing will change that. On the other hand, I CAN be ojective and call a spade a spade. Having said that, I am absolutely not selling Miles down the river by any means. Two 9 or 10 win seasons...Awesome! Thanks for the great post...good thinking.
It doesn't have to be black or white. There is tons of grey area here. Should we fire Miles now? Do we have to wait till we lose a game besides to top 10 teams before we can fire him? What about at the end of the season, can we fire him then regardless of how we finish the season?
Personally, I don't mind constructive criticism of the coaching or the team after a close game and such. It's when I see the 'Fire Miles' or 'JR sucks, Play Flynn' threads AFTER WE WIN that bother me. If winning is the bottom line, then why all the hate just because the team didn't win the way someone expected them too? I think that's what most people have a problem with. Not just because someone has a different opinion.
let's see 590 yards of offense, 510 passing Uh, no, had nothing to do with Colston being out. This offense can put a guy off the street at wideout and it would still be clicking. Drew Brees got a little too confident out there and thought that whatever he threw was gold. He took 14 pts off the board for the Saints and gave 7 pts to the Bengals. That's 21 points difference in the score. As funny as this may sound, his 510 yard passing day was his worst performance of the year as a Saint. He cost us the game. He'll rebound nicely, however. The Saints offensive machine will motor on. I am not worried. The Saints achilles heel on D is the play of their safeties. Actually, let me clarify that. The non-play of their safeties. These 2 guys (Bullocks/Stoutmire) could not support the run last week vs Pitt and this week could not supply any over the top coverage against Cincy. I didn't realize how badly we would miss Harper. Damn that injury. Saints will win the game that is most important against the Falcons and get right back on track.
So, if we are a regular fixture in the top 15, with some ups and downs, and make it to the SEC championship every five years, is everyone ok with that? If that is the case I feel like the performance of the team hinges more on a few players than on the coaches, and while that is true with any coach, I always felt that Saban was an intangible. I don't feel that way with Miles. I didn't feel that way about Brady, but he has changed my mind a bit. So I guess Miles could change my mind as well. Excellent thread.
Just kicking this to show Mr Know-it-all shane that he was not the only one, or the first tomqueatuon Mista Miles. I was never all in with him.
