Today? No but there are lots of reasons for that. Back then, my opinion was to give Oeaux a shot....a 1-year deal to see what he did with it. We did have those losses but ugly came at the end of the season and we were still on sanction numbers. We had NO depth and our best D-lineman got injured early in the game. There was so much relief when Kiffin was let go. He was a major control freak and struggled to connect with players. Oeaux brought his special brand of motivation and the players rode it like a rented mule. Beating the irish in south bend was a tall order and he'd been in charge for under 2 weeks. The loss was a close one. We didn't lose again until ugly. I think most fans couldn't tell if it was heart or talent that Oeaux brought. He's a ferocious recruiter and he had a love for the program. That's why I wanted him to have a shot. I sure as hell didn't want the dude from Seattle. The other two reasons are that when Oeaux left, it was messy. He made some emotional comments and the bridge got burned. I love the guy but USC is no longer the place for him. Lastly, Helton has proven himself worthy of continuing on. He did a phenomenal job last season and has been recruiting like a mad man. With Kiffin and then the drunk, there were character issues and Helton has completely turned that around IMO. So no, I wouldn't trade but I believe there's every reason to head in to your season with confidence.
that's what I figured. Is usc missing RB coach tommy robinson, or are you doing fine without him? I know he got fired from texas a couple of years ago. we'll see what O trots in in february, but after being destroyed by Saban taking 6 top recruits from LA., he only impressed die hard O fans. Also lost cam akers & jhamon ausbon who was committed, before the change.
Oeaux's 2017 class was rated at #7. Far better than either Saban's or Miles first. He also signed more 4 and 5 stars than both of them combined. Saban has been kicking Miles ass in North Louisiana for years. Any inroads at all in that area will be an improvement.
it was #3 before O turned it to #7. Kinda easy by keeping most of the old staff. but he missed on quite a few. bama taking 6 is bad. plus losing the the other ones. Could have been a #1 class for real. I'd rather get players like pocic from up north, than monroe.
You know sport you seem to want to find fault and not be happy. Well that's your problem and you can just sit on it and rotate for all I care. Whine away but if the Tigers have a successful season and look like most fans hope I look forward to your abject apology.
