I watched the Alabama spring game and I couldn't even listen to the LSU game on radio. There was a big Crimson Tide crowd at their game so somebody cares.
LSU's won 2 NC's in the last 6 seasons and has brought in yet another Top 5 recruiting class. If this program isn't already high on the radar of the country's top players, I don't think a scrimmage in mid-April is going to put it there. I would agree that putting on a big show for recruits would help an up and coming program to get to the next level, but I doubt it gives an established program that much of a boost. Until I hear a blue-chip recruit say he picked another big school over LSU because of the spring game, that's a hard sell IMO.
Out here in Florida, I can catch (either live or in replay) every SEC West team's spring game except LSU's. Yes, even Mississippi State's. That's pathetic and unacceptable.
It urked me this morning when I saw on SportsCenter that more than 40 spring games were being held today, and "notables included 'Bama, Notre Dame.....and Utah (Utah?!?), but not LSU. Didn't want to start another "ESPN is out to get us" thread, but at least I know I'm not the only one bugged today.
do you twiddle your twat often? you never pass on a selling point for your program. this is advertising 101. urban meyer has won a couple himself with the world revering tebow already but you saw tebow front and center yesterday. les needs to welcome himself to the 19th century. 1=irked 2 urkeled=
I find it annoying that our spring game isn't televised. With as secretive as Les Miles is about practices, injuries, etc, I'm imagining that's why he might not want it on TV. But speaking as an out-of-stater starved for football, I'd like to see it.
First off, nice pic of Urkel. It does seem a little stange that all these other schools have their spring game televised and we don't. With that said, I'm actually surprised y'all care that much. Spring games are flat-out boring after the first five minutes or so. Don't get me wrong, I'm always curious to see how new guys perform and would probably watch a few minutes of it if it was televised. But it's not a big deal to me either way. I'm flipping through the stations yesterday and I see Nick Saban in a suit and tie on ESPN so I stop for a second to see what he's on for. Anyway, they zoom out and he's actually standing behind his offense as they run plays for their spring game. So let's just say that all the games aren't quite realistic. It was in the final minutes so I didn't really watch it. But I did come back to the television when I heard the announcer say that Saban almost got ran over by the D. And yes, he did almost get trampled. So that was exciting I guess...not that I want to see the guy get leveled, but it was a moment of unpredictability. Yes, it is more publicity, but I don't think it's that significant. I went to a couple when Gerry D. was here and only the first one was sort of entertaining because we were starved for anything exciting at that point. He had the whole "Bring Back the Magic" campaign going so they did try to make it an event then. But after that, even with success and some promotion, the attendance numbers dropped off hard because some LSU fans won't even attend a real game if they don't think it will be that exciting. Obviously some people care, so LSU could at least put effort into bringing it to all their fans by way of radio or television or even the Internet (I know someone said they couldn't even listen to it). But I don't think recruits are really going to choose a school because of it. I'd much rather get recruits to come to a real game in Tiger Stadium and have them experience that. Like I said, I've been to a few spring games and other than the beginning of that first one, the rest were totally lame atmospheres. And you know how hot it is usually in the middle of April in Louisiana... And you know how great our fans are with day games to begin with... So, to me, it's not the best selling point for LSU football. Bama fills up the stands with fans for their spring game because they can all watch Nick Saban and touch themselves for 3 hours. Maybe Les is doing what lawyers do in withholding evidence. That way LSU can watch all the other schools knowing what to expect (somewhat) and preparing better for them while giving them a sneak attack (good or bad). Oh well, gotta go, Boise A & M's spring game is about to come on. Cheers...
My God, I had no idea my post was that long. Sorry for that... I'm self-important. Apparently I must care about the spring game more than I was leading on. Have a good day.
