Not surprising, but mixed signals from Meyer:

Florida coach Urban Meyer says quarterback Tim Tebow has not yet been cleared to play against No. 4 LSU and will not practice Monday.

But Meyer also said the Heisman Trophy winner is no longer dealing with post-concussion symptoms.

Meyer says Tebow has been without headaches and other symptoms for several days. He says Tebow was tested Friday, Sunday and Monday, and the results were "very positive."

I think this game will decided more by cooking skills. I have seen recipes for gator tail, but none for coonass. Sorry about the racial slur.....

actually i think it was an SI article i read long ago but really its more about giving red grief for unfounded comments.

but clearly you can make a case either way since all teams are different and stats dont tell the entire story.

just so happens this dude wrote a recent article about the dreaded bye week.

Tim Tebow College football season is a lot like a war of attrition. Sometimes it's not so much about who's the best, but more who can stay the healthiest the longest. With Tim Tebow going down this past weekend, I'm sure the members of Gator Nation are thanking their lucky starts he'll have a full two weeks to recover. Unfortunately, this is the exception, not the rule.

The benefit of the bye week is the greatest myth in college football. "Why?" you ask. I'll tell you.

The Bye Week Doesn't Help Teams to Recover.
Think a week off in early October gives players on the mend more time to get healthy? Right. For those of you who believe that, well, you've never played college football. You know how terrible training camp is? Well, imagine training camp in the middle of the season when you're not fighting for roster spots, but just fighting to survive.

The Bye Week Disrupts Momentum.
Forget any and all momentum your team has built up to this point in the season, because a well-timed bye week can ruin the groove players have gotten themselves into. With all the distractions these players are facing from week to week (classes, tests, girlfriends, etc.), rhythm is an important thing. A bye week destroys all of that.

Players become distracted, and priorities become skewed. I'd like to tell you that as a player, the bye week did nothing to me … that I was as focused as could be out there (you know, like a "laser"). Unfortunately, I filled my free time with more creative tasks. You get the picture. I'd even go as far as to argue that the best coaches are the ones that somehow manage to keep their teams motivated and focused through bye-week chaos.

I'm sure the argument to this point will be that if a team is losing, a bye week can stop the skid. Wrong. Giving players a week off to lament or engage in the outside world can only make matters worse. The best way to get over a bad loss? Get on to the next game.

The Bye Week Is Un-American.
You heard me. It's un-American. I spent five months in Austria playing football. Trust me, no one takes more vacations than the Europeans. Even entry-level positions over there have a government-mandated 12 weeks of vaca per calendar year. Twelve weeks! With most Americans enjoying about 10 allowed days of vacation a year, I have to believe that even the idea of vacation had to originate across the pond.

Americans are the hardest-working people on the planet. We don't vacation. And we sure as heck shouldn't "bye week." If you love America, then you hate the bye week. It's science.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm almost positive we had a bye week before we lost here at home to the Gators in 2003.

I kind of think Tebow isn't going to play so the bye week really helps them by giving Brantley 2 weeks of reps with the starters. Supposedly Tebow was still having some headaches as of yesterday and they recommend that the person be entirely symptom free for 7 days before starting any sort of physical exertion. We know that Saturday night in Death Valley is DEFINITELY some big time physical exertion. I just think it would be too big a risk if/when he got popped again it could screw up the rest of their season.

My mistake. I just looked up that article and it said he was having the headaches last week, not yesterday. It did mention that he wasn't practicing or even looking at film. He was just basically taking those tests every day. Boy that sounds like fun huh? It said that Brantley was taking all of the reps and if he started they were going to modify what they have been running with Tebow because while he apparently is one heck of a passer, he isn't a runner.

two weeks still weren't enough for nick to account for the back coming out of the backfield. :hihi:

i'm mixed there, though, because i really think it took that loss for the team to re-focus. after that game, they dominated. probably wouldn't have happened without that loss.

Hello Tigers,

The bye definitely helps Florida in this situation only because Tebow more than likely will not play and Brantley needs all the time he can get. Here's to a close game. It'll be won by 7 or less, and I'm hopin' it's the Gators! I respect your club and know it'll be a great game with great fans and a great atmosphere. I can hardly wait. Go Gators!!

My God I thought I would lose my mind watching that. I also remember it was one of those games where we couldn't get anything going and every time we did there was some BS flag thrown. I was convinced the refs were on the take in that game.
