Then we as fans will have to hope that either a. our coaches have shown the players the film, pointed out the mistakes, and coached them to make the right play, b. hope we can once again overcome our mental lapse with a physically athletic play, or c. hope we play well enough that the game does not turn against us on that one play. What are you looking for here? Volunteers from the forum to do a 12th man thing and offer our services to the coach? I played a little safety in high school, but I don't think I've got as much range as Chad Jones.
That play is the least of worries for that game. The blown punt snap taken on the 1 instead of run into the endzone for a touchback. Two points instead of 7...we wouldn't even be discussing a goal line stand in this respect...hell taking the punt snap that started this goal line series out of the endzone would have given Miss St offense a longer field with the free kick. Point is there are mistakes on almost every play of a game. It is how they are capitalized upon or missed oppurtunities that makes or breaks a given play.
I think clueless is too strong a word. Sometimes the opposing OC calls the perfect play for what we're running. It's the goalline, you are supposed to sell out on the dive first and foremost. Sometimes even when a perfect play is called, great players make plays. Chad just made an amazing play to get us out of a bad match up.
Can we vote again? After last night's showing against FLA, I would vote a resounding NO. No, that they don't look clueless (although the question asks if it would scare you). Looks like the defense is shaping up for sure.
