Fine. It is your civility and decency being questioned now. You have asked for it, hombre.

well that is fine i guess, but i meant we should question all assertions about the world, not question each other. if you posit the theory that god created the universe, that is an interesting question. but if you posit the theory that i am uncivil, that is less interesting. clearly i am sort of arrogant or whatever, but who cares? i am talking about the grand issues of the universe, why people have faith, why we are here, that sort of thing.

You are a man of many virtues . . . but also with some decided rough edges. Rough edges get ground down.

Why do you think I am so smooth?

Martin, you might want to site down I'm about to agree with you on a lot of this post.

    (A) 100% agree with this statement. We should question everything about everything - yes even faith, God, the actions of churches, and anything else. But I don't know of any 2 people that see things the same; even when they think they agree its just based on assumptions. We should be respectful of other groups of ideas because we are all groups of one.
    (B) 100% agree with you that that is a conversation worth having. But as I said in post #131 (around there somewhere) 99% of the time it's an exchange of ideas; never results in a conversion from Atheist to Theist or Theist to Atheist. And that's OK; it's a good thing as long as the conversation is respectful - both ways. Which brings us to . .
    (C) I 66.33% agree with you. I'm in Houston you're in New York so I don't care how you treat people other than in the community of this board. And when I or someone else is trying to exchange ideas with you as you suggest in (B) and you respond by calling them a coward, or stupid - and you specifically apply that to the people not to their ideas - and all the rest you subtract from the conversation; not add to it. FWIW that style also takes away from your ability to convince people on your points. It's like radio static that keeps the music from being heard the way the song writer meant it to be.

Maybe we can all learn to be more smooth like [cough] Red [cough cough]

You don't care when you are the insulter. But you got all upset and called me out-of-line a couple of years ago after I said you possessed no empathy, sympathy, or compassion.

I thought I was just stating the obvious, but you were insulted. Sound familiar? Double standards?

yes, how many times do i have to say it.

and i dont remember getting insulted, i must have gotten over it. i hope i didnt go off like a cryin jackwagon like these dudes. why did you have to to hurt my precious feelings?

this thread is me trying to convince everyone that all viewpoints are subject to questioning, and that nothing is sacred, not even faith, and nobody listening but instead insisting that their precious faith is magically off-limits from being wrong and stupid.

although it is nice that you are also full of crippling insults for the faithful, calling their most important, most closely held beliefs "myths".

Faith is not sacred to you, who has no faith. It is the very nature of faith that it is sacred to we who have it. Question us, challenge us to defend it, its all good, just don't insult it. You seem way too intelligent to not be able to grasp this simple concept that has been repeated to you ad nauseum throughout this thread.

i know, that is what is so stupid. the idea that you would close your mind to reason is ridiculous. only a child should be able to get away with such closed mindedness.

thats the point, faith is by nature indefensible.

    why not?

The refusal to accept what you can't see or prove is the essence of close-mindedness.

Only to those who are too close minded to accept the possibilities. That would be you.

OK, you want to make the rules? Fine. Screw you, you godless pu$$y. Now isn't this a much better discussion?
