That alone should help build the confidence and Identity of this team. This LSU team will be more confident going into Athens next week.
and maybe the best guy for getting in the backfield is/was out. maybe chavis plays it straight up until he feels he needs to do differently. not too much blitzing or even stunting going on. i think the most was against ull which was probably just practice. while looking just "ok" all season the team has had comfortable leads in the second halves of all the game i think.
stacey, i think that the team did not so much break last year, i think there was a point, and a particular game, in which it just gave up. i hate talking bad about particular players, so i am gonna try to be diplomatic here. imo, the point where the team gave everything they had, and left it all on the field, was the bama game. imo, the team won that game. but the mistakes of one player gift wrapped and gave the game to bama. it really seemed to me after that the wind went out of the sails of the whole team. they seem to just not have fire after that. with exception of the troy comback that they fought for. i think that with the "bambi" factor not being there this year, this team will not give up like last year. the next few weeks will show us a lot, but even with a loss, if they dont give up, they can still improve. like i mentioned in another thread about the 07 kentucky game. that team didnt let the loss change their minds about what they were capable of. that is the attitude this team is gonna need to seperate themselves from last years team and be able to improve.
First of all, I think we played a heck of a game yesterday. And while many of us thought that it should not have been that close, it was, and we won. So boy am I happy we made it through. I would say, that we barely made progression this week. The long ball from Jefferson, what so many of us talked about last week looked great. We still need improvement, but I think we did progress here. The long ball hurt us on D, some of our scoring drives were just too quick, which kept the D on the field to long in the second half. Defense also looked like it continued to improve. We still gave up a few drives, but we also had the game winning goal line stance. And that is huge because your offense can have a crappy day, and we know our defense can come through with a win for us. The running game, I think it looks like we did not progress here. However I think this is just how the game played out. Out big plays hit, and so there were no sustained drives. So the running game just never had a chance to develop. It worries me the most though. Chad Jones continued to get better, however he did give up that big pass play on the first drive after the time out. He totally bit on the play action. Special teams were a mixed bag, another score given up by our long snapper. And the missed field goal, however I personally consider this a bad call by the coaches, I would have pinned them back deep on the 2yd line instead and gone for it on 4th. Instead they go for the field goal and give it to them on the 20. But then there was no bad punt returns, and the Chad Jones returned. Plus there was a good return to setup the missed field goal. No injuries.
The first driving score was a big play that setup the score, just could not keep them out. I will give them this one as a drive. Then the bad punt snap to set up the second score, no drive here. Third score was a missed sack which somehow turns into a huge bomb for a TD, no drive here. The field goal, lets call it a drive. Was a big play from the cover man going for the tip, instead of playing the man. We kept them out, only giving up a field goal. This is the first big stand. The goal line stand, yes this was a drive of sorts. They got great field position on a bad punt. However our D came through with the win. The Safety was the best call all day from the coaches.
Georgia has way more talent than MSU. If LSU plays the same way they did in Starkville, Georgia will win by 10.
But not way more than LSU. LSU won at Starkville, amigo. If Georgia plays the way that they played Oklahoma State, they will lose . . . again.
LSU dodged defeat at Starkville. Definitly not an, "A game," effort. Georgia WILL punch the ball in from the two yard line and Georgia will not be playing on the road, and will be defending their own turf.. You are correct about LSU's talent, but this a, "bring the A game or lose," situation for LSU.
