Do you think we made progress this weekend?

The past couple of weeks I really thought progress was being made. It looked like both the O and the D were making some ground but after last night I'm not so sure we didn't back peddle a little bit.

I saw some really good plays and playing and some really bad plays and playing.

I just hope we can weed them out before GA and kick some ass.

There were too many miscues against MSU. There were too many delay of game penalties. The OC needs to get the plays in quicker. Missed tackles needs to be cleaned up. If we play like this next week, I don't expect a win against Georgia.

The defense came ready to play this game and look a lot better. The offense . . . still doesn't seem to get fired up

I disagree, we could play the same way again and get a W in Athens but I think that Georgia and LSU may play better next week.

It could always be worse, we could be the FSU or Georgia.
FSU already has 2 losses, BYU and South Florida.
Imagine if you part of that fan base, Bobby Bowden has been there forever and they haven't been so good in recent times.
Maybe we can give some of the whiners to them.

    Georgia lost to Okie State.
Look at the points and the yards they have given out defensively.
    What more can you say?

Yes. We were 3-0 and now we are 4-0.

But, Red, the defense is still allowing teams to sustain drives on us, both through the air and on the ground. Is it because our offense isn't sustaining drives?

Also, we absolutely cannot get to the QB. And when we do, we fly past him.

I'm deeply concerned with the next three weeks. It will make or break our season. Last year, it broke it, and this year, we look worse than we did at this point last season.

    I echo, Red's statement.

Defense was ready to go and I think will continue to improve.

Offensively it was a different tune. While Jefferson looked better throwing the ball (had a career high game in passing yardage) and was his typical self running when things weren't there, our running game took MAJOR strides backwards.

That's a lot of it. The defense spends too much time on the field and our opponents are winning the time of possession. The defense looked tired out there in the 4th quarter. The offense is letting them down.

Getting a pass rush with the front four is still an issue. I'm not convinced that Alexander and Woods are our best tackles, just our most experienced.

Did you happen to notice a game-winning goal-line stand yesterday?

It was the brightest point of the game, showed that our defense has some pride. I hope that doesn't get beaten out of them the next few weeks.

I think we are seeing improvement on defense every week. That goal line stand took talent and GUTS. It also looks like Chad Jones is starting to play like we thought he could.
The offense doesn't seem to be getting better or maybe they are getting worse. I'm certainly in no way qualified to say what is wrong specifically with the OL or blocking schemes but my general impression is that the other team's defense seems to know EXACTLY what play we are going to run and where it's going. If that is the case it is going to be damn hard to block them no matter who you have on the OL. It also seems that given a particular down & distance we run a play, sucessful or not. A few series later given the same down & distance we run the same play. Maybe that's how the defense looks like they know exactly what we are going to do.
