Recruiting a team is way different from actually developing the recruits. Mark May is usually smarter than that. Even Bama fans recognized that yesterday while discussing their class.

Most of those guys never touched the field while Saban was here.

so says every team not ranked in the top 5 recruiting.

you can bet when we were ranked 1 or 2 overall we never downplayed it saying yeah but it doesnt mean anything if we cant develop them.

although its true, its just another way we reason things in our head to make us feel better about not being amongst the top class.

    my #1 pet peeve.

like why we have to compare Miles to someone to make him a head coach. how bout he is just a good coach?

sorry for the derailment. coaching has a lot to do with it. but i bet a ton of coaches could have gone to usc and had a good record this year. thus, the importance in recruiting.

probably because miles is amongst the elite now even though much of the fanbase wasnt sold on him 10 mins before the NC game was played.

Yet we question how writers across the country do the same thing. its just a form of us convincing ourselves when we compare Miles to perceived, better coaches so thats why it continues. It reinforces our belief.

there will always be more doubters with a coach like miles because hes clinically insane which Ive come to learn is a good thing. Hes a mike leach but with all the perks.

He's obviously right. I mean, all you have to do is open your eyes and see the crimson and creme aura surrounding Saban. The man's a genius. A GENIUS! Don't you see? The perceived failure at Miami and the perceived mediocrity of last season - those are all part of his PLAN! Do I have to spell it out for you? I do? Oh, well then..

Saban sets LSU up for a couple of national championships - leaves Huckleberry Hound Miles a bumper crop - because he wants a distraction! His aim all along is to become the reincarnation of Paul Bear Bryant (moment of silence), but he's got to EARN it. He's got to make the Bammers SCREAM for it.

So, after setting LSU up so that Auburn can't possibly win a BCS championship in the interim (cause that would be WAY too much, see), he goes to Miami. The goal there was to leave the SEC just long enough for the Bammers to fire Shula and BEG him the savior to come to the promised land. He didn't even TRY in Miami, see? He barely even coached! He was too busy studying Bammer history and reading books about Paul Bear Bryant (moment of silence) and buying straw hats and creme colored sweater vests and studying the great tragedies of the modern era, like the Holocaust, 9/11, and Bama football in the last decade.

This year? That was planned as well. Oh, hell - it's no challenge to beat ULM and Miss State. What is difficult is losing those games and making it seem all Shula's fault, while simultaneously getting credit for LSU's second BCS national championship because everyone who knows anything knows the power of a coach 3 years removed from a recruiting class. 6-6 was ON PURPOSE! Sure it was. It's the simplest explanation! He wanted the Bammers to want it EVEN MORE!!

So, of course Mark May is right. After all, he's a journalist. Duh.

But, you just don't get it. This is Saban. He's pretty (that's what "they" tell me), he's got good hair, he sounds really smarty-pants on the telly (cough - Holocaust, 9/11 - cough), he wears stylish hats with the aesthetically correct amount of loft. You're living in the dark ages. Saban is IT. He's misunderstood. He's chewing through adversity. He's playing with that Shula fella's players. This is Hollywood material, baby. Wake up and smell the frappacino!

I just returned from Disney World, where there was a sea of purple and gold visitors. You had your few tOSU, bama and gator fans too. Some of the gator fans were nice and congratulated us on the NC, but a few were just being typical gatorasses and how we were a fluke cause they have Gaybow at QB and we should have lost the game against them. Bama fans were just your typical "Saban is the Bear second comming" knuckleheads. I always mentioned ULM and they shut up.

As we talked coaches, a number of gator fans commented how they like Miles because he BELIEVES in his players and has confidence in their abilities. They didn't think Meyers could hold his jock in this regard. I was stunned. Of course they all hated Saban and thought he was highly overrated.
