Great thread. Almost never find such honest answers. I love LSU, had season tickets for years, go to almost all sporting events LSU. I will always be a Tiger fan, but no this team has been heart-wrenching at best. The kids have tons of heart, but we seem to be lacking something we had just a few years ago. Senior leadership. I think the coaches are the main disciplinarians on this team, where the seniors were just a few years ago. I think that allows for sloppy practices, goofing off at practices, which then lead to a lack of execution at gametime. We almost never put anyone away anymore, we seem to be tight, at least for a while, no matter who we play. I'd like to see seniors responsible for some of the teams discipline, while coaches concentrate on making the seniors, and all others accountable. If a coach steps in then an underclassman and senior get it. Something different so that the teams at least seems more in control. So no, this year has been so hard to watch, almost impossible at times.
I enjoy watching the Tigers but Saturday night I was very... Frustrated!!! I am not so frustrated with the players, I think the effort is there. I am frustrated with having so many weapons at the coach’s disposal and we just do not seem to be using them. The second half I was more frustrated watching the Tigers than I have been in my life. LSU was horribly coached on Saturday and that frustrates me to the point my stomach hurts.
I want and expect the team that 100% of other programs wish they were, we have the fans, facilities, players and passion, but our coaches seem to be afraid. I always have hated the excuse.."oh well it could be worse" and having a team 95% of other programs wish they were is an excuse. It doesnt mean I am less of a fan, but I want to be the top dog, not in the words of almost every other teams fan "underachievers" or "overrated".
Yahtzee! I had said earlier in the week that I almost HOPED LSU would lose a close-fought battle against the Gators. I saw an upstart Auburn team looming on the schedule and I truly believed that if we squeaked out a V against Florida that Auburn would roll in here and upset us. (this was before they got handled by Arkansas). I'd MUCH rather lose to the top team in the East and get the team grounded before facing the meat of our West schedule...which is fast approaching. This team now has two weeks to let this loss fester and to re-evaluate things. With the kind of heart and intensity I have seen this year (that was lacking last year), I fully expect this Tiger team to come out that tunnel with a mad fury on the 24th. Our season is really just starting.
I agree with tirk and Attack tiger. I bet Miles is more upset than most of us. with two weeks off to prepare, I'm hoping we'll see an improved offense. We'd better! I'd like to be a fly on the wall at the coaches post mortem meeting. I bet there are some real frank discussions going on in there!
I agree and, while this might have been a sound approach earlier in the season, it's to the point now that, IMO, it's hurting his development. It's time to open it up and start taking some shots down field. This will help the running game, even if the passes are incomplete, because it will keep the defense honest and prevent them from putting 9 in the box.
And that is because they have 1 and 2 star players to watch. When you have dozens of 4 & 5 stars you have a right to expect more and like it or not we do expect more. Our recruiting classes are on a par with USC, Bama, and Florida. We expect the same kind of results or we ask WHY. Name one of those 3 teams whose offense looks remotely as inept as ours. Name one of those 3 teams who force the #1 receiver & #1 all purpose QB to pull pine splinters out of their rear with no reasonable explanation as to why.
No, it's not like 95% of the NCAA has 1 and 2 star players to watch when there are just 4 programs with dozens of 4 & 5 star recruits. Quit being unrealistic. And no, our recruiting classes are not on par with USC or Florida... they get better recruits than we do. We are on par with Texas, Oklahoma, Bama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State--and Notre Dame, Miami, and Florida State are very close (and that's just from a brief study, more teams are probably just as close and/or equal, and that's just from Rivals.com -- just one opinion). As for USC, we beat Washington at Washington... USC did not... and they have better recruits than we do. Florida has better recruits than we do, and we did great against them (which is why we are #10). As for Bama, yeah, Saban's looking great right now, but I'm not thinking that it's going to last. And yeah, our offense sucks, but we don't have 2-3 losses like Oklahoma and Georgia and Michigan... three other teams that have the same talent we do. And look at ND and Florida State... pfff
