DYNASTY! USC has won 11 championships and were a dynasty in their time. Texas has won 6 but the first was in the 40s, the second in in the 60s and the third in the 80's. LSU has won 6 championships since 1991. Thats one out of every three titles for 18 years. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO MAKE LONGHORN JAMBALAYA?
It's 1 title, and it's way to early to say it, but if we can put together another streak like 91-2000 we could be tied with USC by 2020.
USC has won 12, but 10 of them before 1975, when regional play was finally set up. The ACC and SEC didn't become formidable until after then, so the competition was thin. I say that the LSU program is the strongest and best in the nation now, with Texas a close 2nd and Miami/Arizona State/Cal State Fullerton rounding out the top 5. USC's program is nowhere near what it was.
It was also before scholarship limitations, the biggest equalizer NCAA baseball has ever seen. Some may argue different, but IMO Skips 5 in the 90's was more impressive than USC's 10 before scholarship limits.
Overall USC has 12 titles but only one in the last 31 years. College baseball has changed dramatically since then. (scholarship limits, recruiting, attendance, etc.) USC will maintain the most titles for many more years but can't be considered one of the top programs in modern (last 25 years) college baseball. LSU, Texas, & Miami have been the best programs during that span.
I agree they are one of the best. They made the CWS 11 times in 15 years ('86-'00) (19 overall) but have only been there once since (2008)...and as you mentioned never won a title. They're similar to Oklahoma State (1 title in 19 appearances). I put them in the top 10 easily...just not on the same level as LSU, Texas, and Miami.
