But, I think that's what I'm saying. I don't think DJ is as good as Chris Paul, so I actually think he'll make a good college PG for the Tigers. He'll be here 3-4 years, unless he does something stupid. What's a little interesting is why DJ "fell" this year in rep. He was at one point last season considered perhaps a top 2 or 3 PG for his class, and now he's dropped to the 6th or 7th best rated PG for his class and dropped from a top 20-25 player to a top 60 player. I wonder what kind of summer he had--he was still picked to play with the boys' USA developmental squad. In any case, I think the Tiger nation should be estatic to get DJ. He's not only arguably the best player in LA (and this would be the 4th year that Brady and Butch signed the best player in LA), but I think he fills a clear void for the Tigers, helps to shore up a weak part of the Tigers' roster (ball handling guards that play smart), and would be the first N.O. player signed by the Tigers in a long time. DJ, the Tigers NEED ya'!:geauxtige
I know many of you read the other LSU message boards as well as the recruiting sites like TigerBait and Scout and there is good info on all of them. I will say this the optimism in this thread on LSU's chances to sign DJ is not shared by many on the other sites. Mike S on Rivals/Tigerbait even went so far as to say that HIS opinion is that unless the UT visit was a disaster DJ is a likely a Longhorn and that Brady et al are nervous about it. This is a huge change from 2 weeks ago when Mike S had DJ as an almost 100% Tiger the week BEFORE DJ's official visit to LSU. Not saying he is right and the posts here are wrong simply that many who have followed this and were once very certain DJ would be a Tiger are much less so now. Let's all hope we get him because we really have not been recruiting anyone else certainly not anyone else of DJ's caliber very hard. And we need a PG with this schollie. LSU!
Well, I appreciate the realism... I had feared this as well a few weeks ago when I heard that he was planning to visit LSU and not visiting UT. Then things turned a weeks ago... I guess we'll just have to wait and see this week. Hopefully, DJ will be a Tiger.
Stevenson to UK, Augustin to Texas, Lewis to USC. Brady has done a decent job in Louisiana in the past, but he sure dropped the ball this year. Hopefully he has someone to give the lone scholarship to, and hopefully he is better than someone like Farrer.
Yes... this royally sucks. On the one hand I can understand DJ's choice... chance to play with a legit top 5 program with 3 or 4 other top 100 players in a class that will be considered one of the best in the country... But on the other hand, LSU's group of guys have a chance to be real good too, and DJ would have brought excitement back to the PMAC. I'm guessing that Brady will catch some flame for this (esp. since Pokey just went into Texas and took one of their best)... although, I think people need to start asking themselves whether LSU's mens' basketball program really is where UT's is at this juncture. Probably no. Better respected coach and coaching staff, better results of late, and better fans (not great fans by any means, but still better than LSU bball fans) lead to DJ's loss. Oh, well, back to the drawing board. I think given that we only have one schollie, Brady and Butch can probably afford to take their time and find someone who really can help over time. Assuming Ben Voogd surprises and does a nice job of just running the floor we may not be that bad off for the loss...
late word is Brady is shocked by losing DJ, does not have a backup plan, has not recruited anyone else hard for the early signing period and will hope to find someone for the spring signing period who can play point :geauxtige
I think it really hurt LSU for DJ to transfer to a school in Texas.... I went to high school with him and watched him win the first of two state championships. It is really a shame because Brother Martin had a chance to win a third in a row...
