    Austin's paper today reported that:

D.J. Augustin, the highly recruited high school point guard, will visit the University of Texas this weekend, according to his coach at Hightower High, David Peavy. Augustin visted LSU last weekend and has said he will sign with either Texas or LSU. ... Peavy said Augustin plans to sign on Nov. 10, his birthday, the second day of the signing period.

I don't know if this is good... do recruits usually sign with their last visit?

For what it's worth, today's Austin paper also reported the results of the Longhorn's 113-49 exhibition win over St. Mary's. Particularly, the article focuses on freshman longhorn point guard A.J. Abrams, a 5'10" point guard from nearby McNeil High School. A.J. had 5 steals, 11 points and 6 assists in the game, backing up PG sensation Daniel Gibson, and garnered praise from Rick Barnes himself for his defense.

Of note, Abrams, "knows he must do better to earn playing time behind sophomore Daniel Gibson or with him in the same backcourt. ... Abrams has figured out something else as well. More of a scorer than an assist man in high school--he averaged 27.6 points a game last season--Abrams looked for open team mates against St. Mary's. ... Abrams says he now views himself as a playmaker for the longhorns ...."

I wonder what DJ's thinking... Go to UT and play behind Daniel Gibson (Jr) and AJ Abrams (so) or go play behind Tack (Sr) and Ben Voogd (so)? Hmmmm...

Let's keep our fingers crossed! LSU! :bball:

John Brady's sins will be forgiven if DJ comes to LSU and leads us to NCAA tournament berths.

They are doing a better job so far of marketing LSU basketball so far this season, and that was one of his criticisms in the past.

I think Augustin being sort of small, means that he would be much more hesitant to go to the NBA than others too... Sort of like Chris Duhon was, but that is getting WAY ahead of things

What about Chris Paul? he is only 5''11 and he left after his soph year(i think). and ended up being picked #3

There is an exception to every rule...

But it is my opinion that Augustin won't have the explosive stats that Paul will... He will just be a winner...

I am still getting well ahead of myself though

LSU began really marketing Men's Basketball last year. In fact, I believe the marketing team won an award for one of their promotions for Men's basketball.

I certainly hope that you are right. We'll find out next week...

IMO, based upon what I've seen of Augustin, I agree he's a good long-term point guard for the Tigers. I don't see him yet in the mold of Chris Paul (not quite as strong), and at 5'10" Augustin will have to really develop his game to be a first rounder at the pro level, i.e., if he comes, he will stay for 3 to 4 years. The good news is that DJ has a real nice outside shot (should instantly add a more consistent 3 point threat to the team), and plays the PG position with far greater control (but is still plenty quick) than Tack does. Also is a good passer and ball handler--just needs to add strength so he can take it strong to the hoop as a little guy. I could see between Augustin and Voogd for the future years a very strong PG combination, where you could also see them being very effective on the court together where Ben plays shooting guard--a pretty quick, good passing set of guards.

If this kid is as good as Chris Paul, then we should consider ourselves blessed that he goes to LSU for two years...

Not always...it just seems that way.

You'll have to pardon the examples (I know we're talking about basketball, but same applies....)

Last year, Brandon LaFell's final official visit was to Florida
Al Jones took TWO official visits after his LSU one
RJ Jackson took his final visit with LaFell at Florida...

So, it's all hit-or-miss....I don't think "who" the recruit visits last makes a whole lot of difference.
