Here is my honest assement of the game. Defense looked pretty good. We still have some things to fix because we decide to stop them until they were getting into the redzone. There were a few big plays but we really only got beat big when their receiver had use what was clearly an illegal move to get separation, and the ref missed the call. Offense. I feel like it all begins and ends with the O-line. We are supposed to have this amazing left tackle, and Miles himself billed this as the best line he's had here at LSU. We know we have talent there so what seems to be the problem. I think we have a coaching problem in regards to the O-line. When we have a running back who ran for 1200 yards last year and can barely manage to avg 60 yards a game and only has 2 tds through 6 games there is a problem. Please don't give me the line about we run in running formations cause we did that last year and ran all over many teams. I know we don't have an amazing fullback anymore, but was he so good to make up for some bad playing on the o-line? Moving to the passing game, yes Jefferson has some issues holding on to the ball. I agree. Some think he doesn't go through his progression fast enough, I have mixed feelings on this because there are many times I feel like he only has time to make his first read before he needs to pull it down and run with the way the O-line is playing. When a team is getting pressure with 3 and 4 downlinemen all game, there is no need to blitz and they can just sit back in coverage. I feel like our tackle play is horrible, and the gauards and center get pushed so far back in the pocket that when the tackles are able to push their blocks out JJ can't step up into the pocket to make the play. In the end, we are 6 games in. We should know what this team can and cannot do by now. As such, I think the playcalling needs to reflect what we know we can and cannot execute instead of some of this stuff that is getting called. This may make us a bit predictable, but then again, why are we worrying about being predictable when on 3rd and goal we line up three TEs and in the I and get no gain on the run. At least then we would be predictable with something we know we can execute.
I noticed when JJ looks to the sideline in his meerkat stare he scrunches up his face like he just took a dump or is about to. I think it is painful for him. but what do I know.
