After reading the article from the Yahoo Sports contributor which was posted on Rivals I have sort of let RP off the hook in my mind. I am 22 years old and went to the great LSU for 3 years. At LSU, I was able to know members of the football and basketball team. My roommate played for LSU and I took the place of a well known guy. I'm not going into details about that, but when it all comes down to it, these guys are just regular ole guys who have a skill. I could not imagine being 18-22 years old and every move and mistake you make is being looked at and reported. Think aboue all the mistakes you made when you were that age. Yes, he had a golden opportunity and blew it, but he is still only 21 years old. He has a lot of time to redeem himself and I believe the best thing we could do regarding the RP situation is pray for him. His dad died and his girlfriend had a premature baby. He also got kicked off the football team and is moving to another school. That is SO much for a young man to handle. Not only that, he's been mauled by the media. Loosen up, I'm a die-hard LSU football fan and have had some nice advantages in knowing some of the guys that give it up day in and day out for us. Give the guy some slack, people generally live up to what you are expecting them to do. :tigereye:

I wish him the best but he's pretty insignificant now in my book.

Those were all after the bad choices, for the most part. Still, his career isn't over, by a long shot.

I agree but Dorsey, among the hundreds of others each year, didn't have a problem with it. Course, they didn't have a problem with drugs, either. I have family members who are grown men and never out-grew recreational drug use, that's a choice people make and what it brings doesn't get much sympathy from me.

I'm actually excited to see Hatch and Lee. Hatch's highlights bhelm posted were VERY encouraging. Made me understand what Clair was saying about Hatch having great chance to start.

Seems about 82 or so other guys are having no problems handling it.

You are completely wrong and off base. RP was the
#1 QB coming out of America and was scrutinized by his comments, which were uncalled for, when he was 18. He was in the spotlight since he was a teenager. And there are many, many issues which the public is unaware of.

The only reason he was in the papers more than any of our other five stars is because he couldnt keep his mouth closed during recruiting.

I thought we were past the "misunderstood youth" apologist stage of this discussion.

RP has accepted full responsibility for his situation.

    Perhaps you should accept that.

Some of the things people write about the RP situation are so negative and pessimistic that it does irritate me, but the big picture is that RP and LSU just weren't meant to be. It'd be just one like who gets in a serious relationship that doesn't work out, you just have to move on and get philosophical about it and tell yourself it wasn't meant to be, that it wouldn't have worked out anyway. That's what I tell myself about the RP situation, that it wasn't meant to be, that he wasn't destined to be an LSU great at QB, even if he had been a 100% boyscout angel.

And yes, I am also excited to see Hatch and Lee. And yes, those Hatch highlights bhelm posted in a recent thread were awesome, I've been waiting for someone to post Hatch's highlights on youtube so I could post them here, and someone finally did. Of course, the Lee promo video somebody posted on one of the recent Jarrett Lee threads was very cool as well.

Whether it be Hatch or Lee, either way, it's more of a Cinderella story to me -- hoping for either Hatch or Lee do well is very exciting to me.

No one is going to follow or continue to talk about him now that he is gone, but lets face it, this was not OCD, it was obsessive compulsive criminal disorder.

I wish him well, I have no hard feelings. But at that age you know right from wrong, and he picked wrong (and not just once)....and that decision(s) will end up costing him millions in future earnings, and that is punishment enough.

Any of us could have made life changing decisions at that tender an age, but we didn't. These guys just cannot split from bad actors, and like Vick, they will usually be hurt by it. I am just proud that Miles didn't tear this team down for the talent that Perriloux has. One bad apple can spoil the bunch, and hopefully this sends a message to the rest of the team on what is tolerated and what is not.

I must be lost here? Who's Ryan Perilloux?? Does he play for LSU? Sounds like he is some guy who would rather light up the cheeba than play for a national championship team, with some people who still "go to bat for him", and others who say "good riddance".

He seems like a kid who got his hand caught in the cookie jar again, and is saying I'm sorry again, with those puppy dog eyes...meanwhile he is plotting to drink the milk right out of the jug when you leave the room again.

Either way, he is insignificant to the program, and whether we wish him the best, or say peace out....he is not relevant anymore. That's gotta kill someone with his ego. Pride cometh before the fall.....and this guy has fallen...but his life is not over...YET.

How an athlete handles the hype and everything else that goes with sports is largely dependent on his level of maturity. Most athletes have it; RP lacked it, pure and simple. If there was a lot of controversy surrounding Perrilloux, it was of his own making. If he was under a lot of pressure, a lot of the pressure was there because of his statements and actions. Perrilloux is an extremely talented athlete who is also extremely immature. He has squandered an opportunity any athlete would kill for. However, his career is far from over. He has a second chance. We will see whether or not his travails at LSU has matured him. I wish him well.
