the good news is that the scouts also know that the game was meaningless. they will monitor it when he is breakin fools in the SEC. there is no point in mockin north texas
meaningless to you, not scouts. but yeah, he and/or others on our DL start breaking fools in the SEC this season, then it's back on like Donkey Kong. but if you can't do s-word in your first game against a bottom of the barrel Sun-Belt team, then I don't blame NFL teams for not wanting him if the draft was tomorrow we shall see, we shall see, like I said 11-13 games left, let's hope our D-line's sad performance v North Texas was a total fluke (college football is very unpredictable)
It doesn't have to be a sack or tackle for loss on every play. I mean take a look: 15:00 Time1 Quarter01:02 POSSUNT 25 Start3 Plays-2 YardsPunt Result 12:30102:17UNT 2533Punt 08:24101:58UNT 1638Punt 06:26100:54UNT 2530Punt 03:47102:04UNT 2138Punt 3 and out for 5 straight posessions, with a combined 17 yards. They were gaining 3.4 yards per series or 1.13 yards per down (not counting 4th downs since they didn't try any fakes). Hell if you look out of the entire game they had all of 3 series that weren't 3 and out (or fumble/interception before the 3rd down). If you take away the crazy 80 yard touchdown pass? It would give them total yardage of 139 yards for the game. They would have even less plays if not for the retarded running into the kicker call when the kickers foot came down on Mingo. They don't get their second touchdown if not for a ref being in the middle of the play and screening out tackle off. Was it the domination that we've come to expect? Actually it was. Besides one fluke play and one great drive by them (that one drive does falter my confidence a little) it was textbook LSU defense. You don't have to sackle or tfl if you simply get the job done.
you do realize we allowed 2 TDs v N Texas (bottom of the barrel Sun Belt team) while we didn't allow more than a single TD vs an SEC team last year. not a good start
One was on a freak blown coverage 80 yard TD. The other one is more confusing because we allowed a big drive on us, HOWEVER it would have been a field goal if not for a perfect screen from the ref. So ... yeah two freak plays aren't going to scare me when the numbers show we were still amazing.
if you think 0 sacks and 2 TFL by our 2-deep DL vs a bottom of the Sun Belt team is "amazing," then your idea of amazing is much different from mine I did think it was amazing that N TX ran all over us and abused our D-line for a good chunk of the 2nd half we'll see if we improve vs Washington...I think we will (we can't get much worse)
Another 30 pounds will cost anybody their speed. I hope the trade-off works out for Montgomery, but he did not look like an All-American on Saturday. I think it is significant that he did not start. If he wasn't hurt as BHelm says, then he has been underperforming in practice to get passed like that.
You're kind of ignoring the constant pressure and batted balls by Freak, Logan, and Ego. I will not say it was an all world performance, but they didn't look bad, save for ONE series where they moved the ball. I don't like lackadaisical effort either, but this was still a domination.
he will be fine, I heard he went to the coaches and wanted the other guy to start because he is a senior. 30 lbs on that frame, he still looks quick. he will cause hurt and pain this weekend. book it.
I get what you're saying, but I have to agree with the others. I'd have to go back and watch the game again, but I bet the DL wasn't doing anything cute. They were probably just staying home and attacking the guy in front of them. No stunts or anything creative to make plays. No pin your ears back and hit the QB. And I'm fine with that. As Martin said, Mingo and Montgomery didn't suddenly get worse. I think what you want to see from them isn't truly improvement, it's just them turning it on. Of course, improvement is good too.
