Yes, the ACC was a one-powerhouse conference, but Bowden's FSU at least had tough annual OOC rivals. Bowden's Florida State played Miami every single season, and Bowden was only 13-21 vs. the Canes. Bowden's Florida State also played Florida every single season, and Bowden was 17-17 against the Gators. If Notre Dame was a powerhouse like they were back in the late 80s/early 90s, then USC would have a powerhouse to play every year like Bowden's Florida State had with Florida and Miami.
my point was, googleitis, is that playing miami didnt impact their ACC standings then, hence only 8 conference losses in 13 years. and won like 9 or 10 straight conference titles? its ok to just have mere discussions. does IBM sponsor you and is your name Big Blue?
Touchy, touchy. My point was that Carroll's USC doesn't have any annual regular season games other great teams, it's part of what makes them so boring to follow... not having any big games during the regular season. I can't think of any other coach who had a great program that never had any great teams to contend with annually.
Thanks for posting this - it has been bugging me since Thursday. More than anything, I was bummed out that when Petey started talking because I was impressed with his lack of excuses, his humility, his kudos to the boys from Corvallis...thinking...please don't tell me I've hated this guy unfairly - he's saying all the right things, and even seems to mean them...then the BOMB - that the PAC 10 is ridiculously hard (ya know?). Phew. I was right. He sucks.
