Based on his comments throughout the year, Miles was in denial about the defense. The arky meltdown was a blessing.

Now the stars are lining up for a perfect win-win situation. Lets hope Peveto gets the Northwestern job then he can go out with a positive spin.

after one of the games, i dont know which one, he said that if things didnt change on defense, changes would be made at the end of the year. i took that as make it work or you are gone to the dc's. thats not exactly denial.

not saying that game didnt seal the deal, but i think he knew and was just trying to get through the season.

Excellent points made in this thread. The Arky game a blessing in disguise, as painful as it was to witness.

I'm getting a bit impatient, though. I realize that these things take time but hope an announcement is made soon. Anybody have any thoughts when this might happen?

You're correct, and it may have been as early as the UGA game when he said that. The Arkansas game, perhaps, made this a no-brainer, but I'm not convinced changes wouldn't have been made, regardless of the Arkansas debacle.

As much as all of us here are sure we know so much about football, we can be assured that Miles knows lightyears more--and he knew that our defense was abysmal.

On one of his radio shows (after Georgia I think) Les was asked if he was replacing his defensive coordinator's. He replied that he expected his coordinators to be here next spring . . . unless they didn't get the problem fixed this year.

    That's pretty plain, Les.

I don't think he has been in denial. He just has a track record of coach speak in regards to his players and program. You saw him open up and tell it like it is only once - before the SECG last year.

i'm still not sure he will hire a new dc, from his comments i believe he feels that its the players that need to play better. i think that having those two out there at this time talking to recruits shows that they will at least still be here next year if not in the same position. unless he hires a new dc then his thinking about the problems being fixed before the bowl game are just a fantacy. until there is a change announced i'm expecting him to not hire a new dc.
